Map Preview: High Ground Project (Spiritual Successor)

First, let me say that this is still the first version of the map, and that there is most likely still some tweaking left to do. Despite this, however, I feel that the map is now ready for public distribution. I originally intended it to be a bit smaller than it ended up, so I’m calling it a Big Team map (and rightly so). That means that, ideally, 16 players would play on it. A Minimum of 8 players, though. It should work very well, either way.

I’m looking for all sorts of feedback and criticism, seeing as how it’s never been played before. Spawning, Weapon Placements, Vehicle Balance, Base Structure Issues, etc. It all needs testing and feedback. I’m afraid I have a bad case of “My baby isn’t ugly”, and need some fresh eyes.

It supports all gametypes except for Race, Invasion, and Invasion Slayer. However, I would like to add invasion Slayer at a later date, since I feel the map could support it very well.

The map is a Big Team version of High Ground From Halo 3, with a few differences. Overall, it should feel very familiar with a few nice surprises. If you can’t get a full party of 16, though, it will still play excellently with just 8 people (two teams of 4). If you want a smaller game of, maybe, 6 people then I suggest a Free-For-All gametype, such as Oddball, Head Hunter, King of the Hill, or even just plain Slayer (though the map might be a little big for 6-person slayer). Snipers and Team Snipers should work exceptionally well on this map, I just haven’t tested that particular game. On a side note, Infection should work very VERY well on this map. Give that a try. It was one of the gametypes I tried to keep in mind while Forging becasue, let’s face it, there aren’t really any good Infection maps.

It doesn’t yet have a name, but I think the working-title suites it just fine until I can think of something better. I refer to it as “High Ground Project”, and I am currently on version 1.4. In fact, 1.4 is what you guys will be playing. Here are a few screenshots (Hosted on B.net):

Today is that last day I’ll have to play for about two weeks, so if you want to get a game going on it with the guy who made the map, today is probably your last chance. I would really enjoy playing with anyone willing to get a game going on this map, because I’m eager to see how it works. I’ve had numerous compliments from people who have just stumbled in while I was still Forging it, and many have requested earlier version of the map to play on (Which I refused because it still wasn’t set up for many gametypes). All in all, I’m really excited about this map and hope that everyone finds it enjoyable.

The map is now finished. I added every gametype except for Invasion, Invasion Slayer, and Race. The only thing left to do is to adjust the map according to the feedback I get. Most likely, weapon and vehicle placements are the only issues, and those are easily addressed. But I need feedback in order to do this. So please please please DL the map, play it with some friends, and tell me what you think. I would like to get this map done today, since this is the last day of my break.

The map is now on Forge Hub, and includes embedded images as well as weapons and vehicles lists. Also, if you would like to see actual gameplay on the map then you can download a saved-film from my fileshare. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to divide it up into clips and render any of it, so you’ll have to watch it via Halo: Reach Theater.
