Map packs should go free after 4 months

Monolith, landfall, and skyline are all in the regicide playlist. I’ve played 301 matches of regicide and have not once played one of these maps. The map packs should be pay for early access then go free sort of like movies being in the theater then moving to TV later. This makes me question buying map packs when I never get to play them.

If they were going to make it free I’d want it to be an ODST-type deal, or they just make Halo 5 and never make you pay for DLC.

I don’t want it free once I’ve already paid, because then it means there was never a point to buying it.

That’s an interesting idea, but I don’t think it would happen. As a season pass owner I wouldn’t mind seeing the maps get a permanent 25% price drop. I really don’t care if people pay less than me and have the maps, I just would like to play them more.

I don’t know if this will help you, but it’s worth a shot.

Try deleting your maps and re-downloading them. I don’t know if my thing was glitched, or it was a mere coincidence but after I reinstalled them I started seeing them pop up much more often in the map voting screen. It’s worth a shot.

Rather they didn’t, I wouldn’t mind if they made one single map free that’s completely new but I don’t think they should be given free stuff that I have had to pay for.

I’m with the first guy and I can understand your pint but think of it like this:

If 343i release a new map pack today and says in 6-months this will be free but for now it’s 600-800msp. I think it’d be a fair deal since if you want maps you get them and if you want maps fast you’ll get them. I find it to be a great idéa since dlc will be played more and new players will be given more variety.

We definatley shouldn’t feel like we’re entitled to free dlc but I think it’s a good way to keep the game intresting.

Bungie made maps free after a little while for Halo 2 and it worked flawlessly. I don’t mind paying for maps and getting them a bit early. Some people just never plan on buying DLC. Maybe they would come back and play once DLC became free. It kinda sucks not being able to play DLC maps unless a playlist is dedicated to those specific maps.

What 343 should do with Halo 5 is have 2 sets of map DLC with the same maps.

Example:

Map Pack 1(A) would feature all the DLC maps and new custom skins, armor, weapon skins, achievements, emblems, etc…

Map Pack 1(B) would feature only maps and none of the extras.

Map Pack 1(A) would cost $5-$10. Map Pack 1(B) would be free. That way everyone can enjoy the maps, 343 still makes money, and the people spending money on maps don’t get screwed over after paying for the maps. I know people would still buy the packs for armor, emblems, achievements, and such. It is the best logical solution.

I’d rather pay for the maps that others get for free later, if it means that I could actually play the maps. As it is now, I couldn’t recommend to anyone buying them, because they never appear in matchmaking.

A Halo 3 style approach to handling DLC would be the best middle ground for both MS and consumer. Having approximately half of the matchmaking hoppers force DLC, while having no requirement for the other half (the standard Slayer hopper should be in this category), would encourage players to buy the DLC, but not screw over those who do not want to buy the maps or do not have the hard drive space for them.

The real issue is that 343 did not have a permanent slot for DLC content in the game selections. As soon as it’s up, I should see it and be able to play with that content. What 343 did was to play “peek a boo” with that content, so we have no idea when we can play it. People don’t buy stuff if you don’t let them use it - so hiding the maps one week and then bringing them back is just dumb.

Lastly, a separate DLC map list (one for EACH DLC release too) is the only way to guarantee that we can play them. If one or more player doesn’t have those maps in normal lists, then those maps never show up to be voted on. So they have to be separate. And if 343 is on the ball, people whom try to select a DLC specific list and don’t have the content SHOULD be informed they don’t have the DLC and then be given the option of being returned to the lobby or taken to the Store to buy and download it.

PS: Here are the Maps in each map pack if your wondering what is where. The Crimson and Castle are medium to large maps, where as the Majestic Packs are smaller 4x4 maps.

Crimson Map Pack : Wreckage, Harvest, Shatter

Majestic Map Pack : Landfall, Monolith, Skyline

Castle Map Pack : Daybreak, Outcast, Perdition

Normally I’m against this, but you’ve actually presented an argument that could very well work.

Have the pay to access system for some playlists that require DLC and then after a certain amount of time knock some of the price off or just make it free. :open_mouth:

That could actually work and it’s good for both sides!

cough Team Fortress 2 cough

After a certain amount of time, I wouldn’t mind if they became free. It would help out the people who payed for it too…

i owned all of the map packs in halo 3 and bought the first one for reach, the very reason i didnt buy any more after that was because i never got to play them, now looking at the halo 4 map pack playlists floating around 500 people maximum, I have no reason to buy those either

Exactly, never got map packs in reach at all…got all 3 for halo 4 because of my halo 4 pre-order bonus…however, outside of the dlc playlists…i’ve played the dlc maps maybe 20 times…maybe.

achievement tied dlc can not be free

There is no reason why this is ever going to happen. 4 months for free DLC? Microsoft would lose out on so much revenue from people simply just waiting because they don’t want to pay for it.

This is a bad business decision that reflects poorly on the industry and how it actually works.

If we made them all free eventually then what be the point in buying any of the dlc? It would make season’s pass’s completely pointless. If they want to get people to buy dlc then they stop putting Forge maps into the playlist’s because it’s not encouraging people to buy dlc.

Haha, thats good one.

For me its still worth it to buy even if dlc/maps goes free at a later date. Lots of products and services are sold at a premium at launch then go down in price later.

I don’t think getting rid of forge maps to try to push people to buy map packs is the answer. the forge maps are great. they keep things exciting.

A big NO to DLC being free! otherwise what’s the point of buying them if they will become free in x amount of months. I know I’ll wait 4 months easy. 343 just needs to do this (highlighted part) I agree 100% with that.

If halo 5 Doesn’t have social and ranked playlists (where DLC is a must to have to play ranked) then I’m done with buying DLC because of what you said.

You never get DLC maps unless your playing with a bunch of yours friends and they have DLC. It’s a Joke!
