Map Packs and Map Design

Today I’d like to discuss two topics that I feel need to be improved on in the future games. Those being multiplayer map design and map pack dlc.

Map Design

Not gonna lie, the maps in halo 4 were aesthetically pretty, however they were not good as far as gameplay goes. People were (and still are) constantly complaining about them being too large, especially the FFA and 4v4 community.

And I can’t be the only big team fan who thought the maps tailored for said gametype were very small and compact. You couldn’t drive a warthog around without crashing into a rock. I also remember some very rage inducing tunnel ambushes on my mantis on Shatter.

Map Packs

Now for another thing that has rustled the jimmies of many. The fact that map packs were not balanced out. Halo 3 had it right. Come out with one small map, one medium map, and one big team map to please all parts of the community.

The halo 4 map packs went from medium maps, to small maps, to big team maps. Making a lot of people have to wait for either a long time to get the maps they wanted. DLC has become an annoyance to the halo community instead of an addition to their halo experience.

I would like to see older maps come back from H2, H3, and even Reach. There were some classic maps like pitfall they really just need to bring back. Dont reinvent the wheel if you dont have to, just expand it.

I would prefer that the Map packs contain the following:

[/li]- 1 small-to-mid sized map

  • 1 Large-to-massive sized map

  • And 1 Forge map that shatters it’s predecessors with pure innovation

  • I would also like each map pack to be themed:*

  • A Forerunner themed Map Pack, one that offers that “classic” style of gameplay (Think of Vahalla or Forgeword)

  • A human themed Map Pack, one that would show Human-Covenant engagments in the background (Along the lines of Landfall or Highlands)

  • A Covenant theme, it could give some interesting canonical perspectives (Think of Assembly with the Scarab production, or one that take’s place in Sanghelios)

  • And of course, that creepy Flood/Precursor theme (The glowing pillar of stone in Impact may very well be Precursor in origin, or a Flood infected map)

  • Don’t forget the long needed Remakes… I would love it if they were free, just to prove that 343 has not forgotten us

  • With the addition of having a Forge Map in each Map Pack, the idea of expansive Forging would no longer hurt DLC sales.*

I’d happily trade 3 map packs for 1 original campaign DLC.

I would like to have more maps in a single map pack. I never bought the map packs, because 800 Microsoft Points sounded too much for three maps.

I’m a 4v4 guy, and I like the 2 good map packs, but I think we need more maps like Haven and Guardian.

I would Love to See more maps in the style of reach for BtB like spire or boneyard, because they were the best BtB Maps I knew… For 4vs4 I prefer Halo 2 and 3 because the were pretty cool.

Buuuuuuut if they so a remake it should be the best btb Map ever, namely Deathisland!!
