Map Pack Achievements are not my friends

I know I’m probably in the minority on this one, but I hate Map Pack achievements. I know some are strictly skill based, but the ones that require much more luck, than skill and timing annoy the crap out of me. Largely due to the fact that I’m OCD and will go through periods where all i want to do is get a the achievements! I just wish when the created these, they wouldn’t be so silly.

I’m sure most of this is due to my lack of skill, but that won’t stop me from resenting them!!

“That Won’t Save You”

In Castle DLC Matchmaking, assassinate an enemy who is using a Hardlight Shield.

hmmm yeah that one is going to be tricky.

Yea, probably never get that one… The four air assassinations in the last map pack was ridiculous. The only reason i got that one was because I was practicing with my brother in a custom game and it gave it too me.

By the power of the gods, i some how even performed one on the appropriate level, and it didn’t say air assassination, like it does when you do it correctly.

Tying DLC achievements to the specific maps from a new map pack may be some kind of requirement by XBL (I know they have guidelines for additional achievements), but I hate that phenomenon. I don’t know if that’s the case as Halo is the only FPS I’ve ever owned map packs for and single player DLC achievements in other games will obviously come from the new missions. It seems like something XBL would require, but it’s not very player-friendly if it’s the case.

I quite enjoy new achievements, but not being able to earn them on any map gets me. Depending on your preferred playlists, you may never see certain maps at all and then you have no chance at getting them. I’m not obsessive about achievements by any means, so it doesn’t bother me to have a few that I never get, but it does annoy me when I complete the act to unlock one on a map it doesn’t count for. I was a day one purchaser, yet I probably only have two airsassinations ever. (Both times on the Haven man cannons I think.) It’s a shame that the rare times I do it from now on will probably not count as I scarcely see those maps.

'Tis just a small complaint, of course, but one I’ve had for a while.

Hey at least the achievements for Castle Maps aren’t luck based like most of the Crimson/Majestic ones. Only one that would require some luck is being behind someone using Hardlight Shield to assassinate them.

The best map pack achievements were the Noble Map Pack from Halo Reach - if you had bought the map pack you could earn them on any map in MM. Things like earn 2 Double Kills with a shotgun in a match, or Earn a Killing Spree - reduce randomness and actually aren’t massively difficult.

The worst achievements are ones that require a map and gametype combination like the Zombie achievements in Halo Reach and Anniversary maps - they were atrocious.

Don’t restrict the maps, don’t make them silly luck based ones, avoid restricting to certain gametypes.

I’ve managed to get all of the Halo 4 achievements to date. Got all of the Crimson ones before Majestic and I’ve finished Majestic and am ready for Castle. Honestly they’re all pretty easy if you try to earn them before the playlists are taken down.

The only one in Castle that looks painful is the hard light shield assassination, the rest are totally doable.

Actually, I’m with you, I truly despise multiplayer achivements. Most of them are time consuming or based on skill (sometimes even luck, like getting a Perfection on Halo 3, give me a break!).

If you ask me, achievements should be for Single Player mode only.

i can get pretty ocd about cheevos like im only missing two in halo 3 and one in odst but i wish that at least a couple of the cheevos for castle would have been spops related. itd be nice to maximize the number of single player achievements and minimize online/multiplayer ones.

Singleplayer only?

Fine, complete the campaign on Mythic.
That would be impossible for me

That’s the one I’m fearing most too!

It’s an “Achievement,” so it was never supposed to be easy or just handed to you. I don’t like that they are map based though. Just keep them in the back of your head and go for it if you see an opportunity.

That’s true but achievement should always be skill based not luck based. How often do you see a person with a hardlight shield? I’d rather the Achievement deflect a Tank Shot at the last moment with the Hardlight Shield or deflect and explosive with the hardlight shield at the last moment. Because seriously this one is worse than the Pulse Grenade and 5 Air Assassination.

Map based achievements are silly, since if you don’t get them during the period the maps are open, you seem to never play those maps again. The problem I am having now with the crimson maps.

The double kill with the pulse gernade I though was just plan luck based, which it is, but if you play on a free for all map the chances are much higher. This was one of the more satisfying achievements I got.

I would also like to see more Spartan Ops achievements. Gives me another reason to play it.
