I know you guys don’t want to make the Hackathon too easy for us, but would it be possible for the API to supply a basic overlay of each map? I’m just assuming there are assets like that somewhere. I only ask because it’s pretty hard for us to re-create this in-game (Theater mode camera can’t go very high).
Otherwise, there are the map overlays from the Prima Games guide - But I expect we’re not allowed to use those in our websites. So there aren’t too many options here, aside from receiving the real overlays.

Wow. Yeah that type of image would be absolutely perfect.
I second this request. Location information is what I’ve been waiting for to really delve into the API, but location information without context provides little knowledge. While 3-dimensional representations would be awesome, 2-dimensional overlays would certainly provide a sufficient amount of context to make the information useful
To add onto this, there is no reference for the units of measure of the coordinates provided. Does (1,2,3) correspond to the center of the map or the top left corner? If such a map overlay service were to be provided, adding a bounding box property on the response would be extremely helpful.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Machinema mode has an option to display the in-game coordinates of your Spartan. Not exactly programmatically accessible… but could definitely run a small experiment with a custom game on a dev map for orientation.

I’d really like to see this happen. Even with Machinema mode, it would take quite some time to since the bounds for each map are obviously different and a lot of work would be put on us just to get each map’s bounds and even then, those bounds may not be accurate. Not to mention creating an accurate image overlay for those bounds somehow.
AFAIK, the methods of getting map coordinates for warzone maps would be impossible since custom games (Machinema mode) or forge cannot be played on these maps. The only way to get them, I suppose, would be through trial and error querying the API.
It would seem that these resources already exist but have not yet been set free on the api. I really hope these assets are available soon as Trip to the Zoo and others have described.

I dont think they will be provided before the end of the competition sadly

Since we see the occasional response from a variety of 343 Staff members, I’d venture to say they simply are working behind the scenes to provide such a request in an elegant manor (vs a .zip download). The negative side of me says they are never coming.
I tried the PRIMA maps route, which will maintain a consistent base of zoom but has extra data all over the top down image that simply clutters it. Taking the photoshop route to remove this extra oddities would be fine, except PRIMA guide maps are behind a paywall thus licensed. I can’t use them anyway. So I reached out to PRIMA to try and get an understanding about this.
> Because the Halo 5: Guardians guide is a licensed product, Prima is unable to authorize sub-rights for any of the guide contents. You would need to contact 343 directly to inquire about this.

Part of me thinks Prima Support didn’t even read my message in detail, but o well. I then went the route of generating my own images via flying high in forge and taking screenshots. This worked okay for some maps that have no ceiling, but some maps like Fathom are just impossible to do. Not to mention you have to maintain the same zoom level of the shot otherwise the algorithms are so messy between maps for mapping the XYZ points to the source image.
You can’t spawn in Warzone maps and using free roam in Film of a Warzone map doesn’t let you just fly up and look down. You are bounded by the same laws that a player is.
So that leaves me here responding in hopes for something from 343. My imagination is dry with X,Y,Z points without some sort of map image.
