Map Layouts & Strategies

Vertikull here,
Today, I will be discussing something very different and very scary (for me): I will be giving a tips post on five of my favorite maps. Hopefully, this will help someone and if I make a mistake, I’m sure you will let me know on the comments
Anyway, lettuce big in!

Maps

  • Colusium
  • Fathom
  • Plaza
  • Tyrant
  • Empire (& Eden)

  • Colusium -
  • Colusium is one of the most prestigious maps in Halo 5. A perfect map for Slayer, FFA or CTF. It is a little too open for Doubles in my opinion but anyway.
In Slayer and Doubles, you have two priorities: 1. - get control of the power weapons 2. - Get control of the upper levels.
In CTF, you have 3 priorities: 1. - get control of the power weapons 2. - get control of the upper levels and 3. - take control of snipe side. A vast majority of your flag runs will be on snipe side.
    Two quick points:
  • Be careful of how you play if you get scattershot. Because it is so open of a map, scatter is only viable in the caves, sneakies, and the occasional elbows.
  • Colusium drives home one of the most important fundamentals in Halo: get control of the upper levels. If your on the bottom, you will usually lose the match. If you successfully hold the upper levels, you will usually win.

  • Fathom
  • Fathom is one of the best all around maps in Halo 5. It has long range sections, mid range sections and short range sections. It is beautiful for pretty much any type of play. Here are your Fathom tips:
  • Camo needs to be an extremely high priority. With the Railgun sitting extremely close to the beginning spawn point, it can be easy to jump on that and forget the camo for a little bit. Get camo as quick as you can and you will probably get at least 2 kills on the silver level and more as the ranks go up.
  • CONTROL TOP MID!!! With a BR, Lightrifle or even a Railgun if you can manage getting there with it, you will dominate. You will need to be extremely aware but this is the winning Fathom strategy. It is especially effective for CTF.
  • If your opponents are controlling top mid, you have two options: ramp or clamber. You can go up the ramps to the top but your opponent will always expect that. Or you can clamber up the side up central tower, it’s harder to be sneaky but they usually won’t expect this.

  • Plaza
  • Plaza is one of those all-around maps but this is one map where you need to know map control and positioning to win. Plaza is fantastic for pretty much everything. Doubles, Slayer, Stronghold, pretty much everything works here.
  • Biggest tip I can give: control Sniper Spawn or Green. This is the power position. You can control almost a third of the whole map from here.
  • Stay off of Top Mid. Unless your getting Overshield, stay off of Top Mid.
  • There are a total of 3 power weapons (Sniper, Hydra and Shotgun) and 1 power up (Overshield). With Snipe, stay right at spawn. Don’t drop down to green hallway or right to green tower. Hydra, stay in the mid range areas, green, green sneaky, blue window or other areas like that. Shotgun, stay in Orange, Blue hall or Tram. With Overshield, go for power weapons or go to play very aggressively (but don’t be stupid; always stay off the bottom, except for Stronghold) Of course, with Overshield, you should be Stronghold hunting anyway. You should be hunting for kills.

  • Tyrant
  • Tyrant is a very weird map. It is extremely close range except for two spots. There isn’t really a power position and the designated power weapon is a sniper rifle. Go figure. My opinion, that should be hydra or rocket launcher.
For me, this is the pinnacle Doubles map.
  • Your primary objective should be to get the Scattershot. You will dominate if you have it.
  • Stay off the bottom, constantly check behind you and always have your AR/SMG ready. Your magnum is only viable near snipe spawn or Lightrifle spawn. This is the map to hone your AR skills.

  • Empire (& Eden)
  • This is another great all around map. It’s shines in everything and is my personal FFA/Doubles map.
  • If your close to tower, control shotty. If your in Red, go for either Overshield or Rockets. If your in Blue, go for Snipe, and Overshield, then rockets. This map just begs for Shotty/Snipe.
  • Both sides work but the power position is blue base. Stay on blue platform as an observation point, blue nest for guarding the base and watching for Overshield and blue outside for covering approach options.
  • As always, stay off the bottom, unless your getting Overshield.

That’s it for this tips post.
Now remember, I’ve only been playing for 3 months and I’m only Platinum rank so I’m sure I missed a lot but lemme know if this helped you any.
