So for most of us forge fanatics we get an idea that excites us enough to make us want to make the idea reality, and I decided we, (me), might as well share some ideas if we want. I just thought it would be interesting to see what ideas people are coming up with, considering all the possibilities there are with Halo 5 Guardian’s forge, intended and unintended. (i.e. vehicle welding glitch). It’s completely respectable if people don’t want to share, due to their desire for their idea to not be stolen, but personally I figure that if I’ve got an idea maybe it can give others some inspiration or something. So I’ll share some forge map or custom game ideas, big or small that I’ve thought would be interesting. I’ve also got some unfinished maps, but that’s a different topic.
- Linear Infection Maps - This idea has been around for quite some time, where players have to make it to a safe haven area, and zombies have to kill them before they can make it past all the obstacles. Fat man was one of these. I’m working on making some of these styled maps in a series, having them all take place in different parts of the city with different building styles.
- Sheep Herder - (Okay, infection maps are kinda my favorite thing). I’m thinking that by using some game mechanisms and playing around with settings it would be cool to setup a gametype where the survivors are unarmed, or have one or two bullets in a sidearm, and a single one of them has some great weapons and powerups. This player would have to protect all the others from infected as they went around in search of more ammo. Infected could plan accordingly. Problem is finding a way to get the players the right gear by the time the game starts.
- Stalker - This idea isn’t mine, and it’s pretty basic. One life, one invisible overpowered zombie, and players must work together to survive.
- Raft wars - With the vehicle welding glitch, you could attach structures to a ghost or similar vehicle and make boats, with crews on them. Then you could pretty much just play pirates.
- Vertical maps - Virtually all maps are wide and horizontal, so it would be interesting to experiment and make a vertical one, where combat and everything is based on moving up or down. One obstacle, however, is that players on top would have an inherent advantage. For something like one flag assault, etc. It could work well. You could also simply make a map where players fight while falling infinitely.
- Super Slide - This would be like the jump rope gametypes in Reach, only with a lack of vehicles, if you could propel the players on a slope correctly.
- Moving Blocks - If you could create motion sensors on single blocks, you could make adjacent blocks, through the power of scripting, move from an out of sight position next to the block the player is on. It would basically make bridges, but you can only see the nearby parts, making movement tricky.
- Spinning Arena - Scripting allows blocks to move in position and/or rotate, so you could make two giant bases, attached to a pivot, rotate around as the players try to fight.
- Unlock sections - You could put timers on a map to activate a block movement, unblocking passages into an entire new section of the map, and do the same thing to make the old section fall away over time. It would make a map where you progress to different arenas, escaping the collapsing old ones.
- Slam/Defend maps - If you make a map where part of it is a great degree lower than the other part, place teams on either elevation, and add turrets on the lower part you could have players try to spartan slam a great distance to get kills while others try to shoot them out of the sky. It would be a challenge to balance things out though, so I would make a gametype where teams switch sides if that’s the case.
- Turret Fight - This one is pretty self explanatory, give players turrets, possibly speed boosts, and make them fight carrying around their heavy weaponry.
- Turtle Hunting - Make a 1 v all gametype, where players hunt down a single person who hides in a spot of his choice, with an overshield or similar boost, and see how long it takes for them to root him out and take him down. It would suggest all the other players having powerful weapons, but not too utterly ridiculous, and having one life. It would also be fun due to the fact that the “Turtle” would probably be scared -Yoink-. It would take some experimentation to try and get the teams set up.
That’s all I’ve got for the moment, feel free to use these if you think they’re worthwhile.
