Map Flow, Trick Jumps, and Taking Risks

This thread is for everyone, Halo Vets and the new guys alike

I wanted to create a place for us to share some awesome moments in Halo 5 that show YOUR play style. These moments you share in here MUST demonstrate one of three things (or all) - Map flow and movement throughout, Taking an offensive or defensive risk, and some trick jumping. Now I don’t want you guys sharing only freak occurrences or God-tier stunts that you do. Just moments where, you as a player, felt like a badass. I stress that these be your own clips. No reposting please!

With your post, I’d love for you to elaborate on your video to help others understand how they can incorporate that into their own playstyle. As a member of the community, I want to help others find a way to enjoy this game and be able to teach and to learn from others while doing so.

Here is a quick little montage of some of my recent clips in Halo 5. I will break it down here in text, and you should keep an eye on the upper right hand corner of the video because it holds a “title” to help coordinate it to my post.

-Countering through Map flow-
This is probably my favorite thing to do in Halo when it is pulled off successfully. This is a clip of me on Plaza in Team Doubles during a firefight between me and two others. After getting one enemy to one-shot, I myself am in a bit of trouble being one-shot my self. I couldn’t clean up the kill due to his teammate pressuring me back, so I reel myself in and read the map. He runs towards top mid where overshield is, so I try my best to get to a vantage point and take him out quickly before he grabs it. As I’m doing so, I see that he is actually climbing up to corner me between him and his partner. Knowing how to spring jump saved me here as I was able to meet him, which in turn surprised him, allowing me to get the final shot off. I was able to pull off the perfect counter because I knew the options he had as a player to attack me.

-Keep Moving Spartan!-
Okay this is a tip for a lot of new guys in halo. I tend to always do my best when I am flowing from one part of the map to another. No camping, just checking my sightlines as I encounter them. In a mode like SWAT, you can really do some damage to the other team with a bit of knowledge of spawn points and letting your awareness guide you.

-Keep THEM Moving-
This may seem a bit silly, but let me explain. Your opponent is most likely doing exactly what you are doing. Thinking of how to gain the advantage and kill you more times than you kill them. The best way to upset someone’s play is by making them work for it and to keep them moving out of rhythm. Be unpredictable through your own patterns. Use the environment to your advantage. and remember that defensive play CAN be offensive. In the clip (team shotty snipes) I find someone who really wants to knock me on my -Yoink- with a shotgun so I keep my distance but position myself to feast on his bad angle. Because he was so hungry for the kill, it allowed me to exploit that and gain an advantage when he probably thought he had been in control. The second opponent appears behind me right after that fight so I was really off guard. The best way to handle this is by staying cool and using what’s around you to your advantage. In this case it was a wall that was inches away. Once I got around it, me and my opponent were on fair ground again and allowed me to corner pressure him for a nasty no scope.

-Risk Reward-
Being risky is what halo is all about. It pays off every now and then too! Don’t push yourself in a corner with a shotgun, trembling and sweating through your gloves every round. Push for situations that may end up top ten worthy. Halo is about having a blast and always striving for a moment that tops your last. Here on Fathom I noticed the rail gun popped, so I went and tried a trick jump from bottom floor to top mid. I pulled it off! I then kept my cool as I was being flanked from behind. I put myself in a risky position, but allowed myself to keep my flow going. Just don’t get down on yourself if you screw up, you’ll get another shot at it.

-Enjoy the Ride-
This next clip on Battle of Noctus is a great followup for why you should take risks. IT CAN BE FUN AS HELL. Here I am on my first match on this recently added map just mucking about. I wanted to groundpound somebody so badly off of the mancannons, but I horribly mistimed it… uh… okay then halo… I couldn’t stop laughing for a good 5 minutes. Just watch the clip. >:D

-Mult-
this is a typo. There shouldn’t be a title for this clip. It’s just a great example of offensive map flow, and allowing yourself to take in as much info around you as you can without stressing over it. Again, have fun.

-Offensive Flow-
Again, the flow is what feeds you in halo. Once you get a feel for the maps and spawns, find yourself a sweet pattern to run through (make it up as you go) and kick some butt. Once you get in a rhythm, you can’t be stopped! Maybe you’ll get that killionaire!

-Take the Shot-
More risk based advice. If you happen to have a sniper, or any other power weapon. Don’t be super cautious thinking you should make every shot land. Just whip that ish. Get futuristic. ALLOW yourself to stand on a higher level than competitive play. You are here to have fun, that’s what halo is for! This is me using all of the above (no trick jumps) to get a nasty, risky, festive, triple no scope on Pegasus.

-It’s Okay to Mess Up-
No matter if you’re super competitive, a casual player, or just here to test the waters, DON’T BE AFRAID TO MESS UP. It’s part of life, so why should we remove it from our gaming experiences. These clips on here do not showcase my faults. They are highlights from my games that I want to share with you all, so you can learn from them or find some enjoyment in watching them. Mr. or Ms. Champion rank, you will occasionally falter. Hello social guy or gal, You may get your butts handed to you some games, AND ITS OKAY. Just try to find your highest points, and your lowest ones to SEE the silliness or badassary that it brings along with it. Every moment in halo should shine, so don’t be afraid to take those risks, or to learn a new strategy. Go out there and grab those memories, and hold them dear to your heart. Oh, and share them in this thread

For those who read through the post. Here is a small treat! It’s some beta gameplay footage I capped -
