What do you think about 343 adding a map editor instead of forge mode?
I personally think it would be a huge change in the Halo Series.
Do you support this idea?
I think that its to much work for 343i, the technology involved with it would probably eat up some extra needed disk space, it removes the demand for map packs, and console map editors are relativity hard to make a UI that is easy for everyone to use.
what would be nice is to ship a separate disk that contains an abridged and simplified version of the map editor that 343i uses and one can transfer the files over a LAN to an Xbox where you could pay a small fee in Microsoft points to allow you to share it with other players.

Why not just move the map editor to the computer instead of a separate disk, then allow the user to upload them to the Xbox somehow. Gets rid of all the limitations of a console.

If it were a pc or next gen console game yes. However it is not and the 360 is limited in that regard. Halo 5 and 6 yes
Forge mode is the extent for the time.

Sorry, I somehow forgot to mention that the fancy program is on the PC and you move the files from the PC to the 360 via LAN, ect…

Ok, I see. I agree completely. If a full map editor/creator is to be available to the user, it should be on the PC.

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking, save for the paying thing. People keep saying Halo uses a static engine and can’t create a map editor such as the one in Far Cry 2, so PC is the best choice for great community maps that don’t all look the same.
So are you saying you should pay for each map to be played individually? Although I hate the idea of paying for it, I have to admit that would eat up my money like crazy.
If its like Far Cry 2 map editor then yes :)… I would spend hours making new levels
I doubt 343 are making a full PC map editor already, and I think that to put it in now would leave the rest of the game really buggy and unfinished… but it’s still possible to release it as DLC. Give the game itself Reach’s Forge mode, but on the PC editor you’d be able to upload new textures, draw your own objects from scratch, add custom filters, weather effects such as fog… everything, basically.
The fun world of thinking your way round problems arrives when you realise you’d have to upload your maps to the 360 to playtest them and know the 360 can run what your PC can. If you invited any friends in, they’d have to load all the textures and objects, plus it would be great if you could then edit your custom maps in regular Forge… it’d be a hell of a job to implement all of that, but it could (I think) be done. And boy would this raise the bar for video games.
Something like the far cry 2 map editor would be good for terrain. then forge mode for the buildings, weapons and gametype setup.
If they have the time to pull it off and pull if off well, sure, but otherwise I’d just rather see a few upgrades to forge itself instead.
I think the best thing they could do is an amalgamation of the current Forge system and a Far Cry 2 map editor. Increase the Forge Palette, add new options, textures etc and have a Far Cry 2 style terrain editor. Frankly, as good as the Far Cry 2 map maker is, Forge has a few advantages, by combining the systems we could have the best of both worlds.
I hope that after they release all of the dlc’s for Halo 4 that they’re gonna release a download for a terrain editor for PC on this website so that you can create a custom map and then upload it to Halo 4 and then forge on it.
I discussed this and i strongly agree! Let us make our own maps!
a HALO map maker would be the best, feature, ever, of all time!
It would depend what it would consist of, can you elaborate on your idea for me?
> It would depend what it would consist of, can you elaborate on your idea for me?
Like you would be able to raise and lower the terrain, apply different textures to different areas, add trees and different kinds of plants etc…
You should go on youtube and look at the farcry 2 map editor cause I think that’s what he’s getting at.
Farcry 2 did it and Halo can do it plus it was an older game…
> Farcry 2 did it and Halo can do it plus it was an older game…
yeah, if an older game can do it, why not the best game?
I do not support this, mainly because the map-editor would most likely require code. I don’t know a scrap of code and don’t have time to learn it (heck, barely have time to play the game itself). Forge is great because literally anyone can do it.
