Map Content Update, Please 343!

While having new playlists and REQ items can be nice, or tiresome, there is simply a lack of maps still in Halo 5: Guardians, and I believe that 343 Industries would benefit far better if they added some new maps for both Warzone, and Firefight.

Now, I’m not talking about Forge maps in Arena, even though the ones released from the community are nice, especially in Infection.
I’m talking new designed maps, unlike constant remixes such as the many in Warzone and Arena.

For Arena it would be nice to get both old and new maps. Some maps like Bloodgulch for some originality and classic feel, many new maps for SWAT, Infection, Slayer, and BTB. I love when 343 designs new maps because they do good at aesthetics, and it’s always nice to have new things.

For Warzone, I’d like some new big maps, where it isn’t a focus primarily on taking garages, and fortresses every single map. Make new capture objectives, more Forerunner base captures, maybe some Covenant ones. Make the Initial team bases Forerunner oriented with a fancy core in the middle. Something with new design so it doesn’t become so boring. The only two maps with any original design that’s different from the others, sadly, is Raid on Apex 7 and Battle of Noctus, only for the Monument or the Spire.

I honestly feel that if 343 withholds us from an update for a couple or few months, to add nothing but maps, with a bit of REQs as well, the wait would be much nicer. An update every month with two maps and a remix is just not worth waiting for getting excited for, especially when it’s that and a hundred skins and emblems.

Who else agrees that there should be far more content in the form of maps than REQs?

I completely agree. I also wanna say that 344 should actually make full on BTB maps and stop relying on the Community Forgers to make them. They’re cool don’t get me wrong, but I wanna see 343 make an actual BTB map. Whether it be UNSC, Covenant, Forerunner or even Flood themed. Hell they could even remake The Spire or Boneyard from Halo Reach as BTB maps and Invasion whenever they bring that back along with Playable Elites.

But I also agree. New maps would solve plenty problems and complaining. Throw some old classics in there, with updated looks. Coagulation, Ragnarok, Zanzibar, Headlong, Ascension, the list is endless man

I think people will be pleased with community maps going forward with the changes made to forge. Just need a good mix of maps for all playlists.

A variation on the Warzone setup would be good. Four or five bases to capture would make core destructions difficult and a good challenge for the 12 man teams while also forcing more movement around the maps.

I completely agree with getting more maps. I find it interesting how many people seem to want developer made maps. For me as long as the map plays well I could care less if it was made by 343 or a forger. It would certainly be nice to get some genuinely new maps but I would also love to see a community forge map playlist with some classic remakes (maybe a Social playlist).

I’ve been playing custom games all day and some of the newer maps people have made are very very good, I do however want to see more exciting arena maps.

Exactly. They don’t even have to change the map mechanics for them if they ported them over from Halo: MCC, since the MCC Halo 2 is just Halo 4’s engine. They could easily bring back them maps. Bring back Reach maps, a lot of the community remade them maps, but they haven’t made it to Halo 5 Arena yet.

I think more content would save a lot of problems with the game and the dissatisfaction many people share.

Developer made maps have their own twist of aesthetics, that feel original. With community maps, your left working with a few canvas maps, and the same textures and designs, and limits of creativity that is confined to what Forge offers. With the developer maps, the makers have endless options and can make the maps however they like, which is why I like new maps or remakes of even classic maps.

There is nothing wrong with this either, so long as a lot of the maps are newly built in there too, to give a really big mix of options and a bit more prolonged fun.

I just really wish Warzone had newer designed capture objectives and overall map design. The same stuff, even on a differently designed terrain is still boring. Nobody wants to continuously take over the same type of garage or base core. There could be more spires, bases like Bloodgulch style, tall spires, like the ones in Halo: Reach Invasion, even capture points with hardlight bridges or teleport networks to add a twist to it and make it less straightforward of a capture and more of a challenge to hold.

There’s just so many options that can be done to the overall layout of Warzone maps. A new base design would be a good start, maybe one that doesn’t just have an entrance from the front side? Maybe 4 entrances or a back entrance for infantry. Minor Forerunner or UNSC weapon defenses, some new objectives in replacement of Garages and armories.

Agreed. Lots of untapped potential.

I think bosses might be one of the biggest benefits if they’re going to keep using them, such as Warden Eternal. They could make different variants of him for Warzone besides the Steroid Eternal in the Firefight beta, lol.

I recently watched some halo 4 clips and to my surprise I found myself thinking why are these maps not in halo 5. I mean Valhalla in h4 was beautiful. The arena maps wouldn’t need much tweaking if any (people could fly around on those in h4). I just think there’s some untapped potential there and a little shocked it hasn’t been brought up more often. As for warzone there’s all these beautiful campaign settings that could be implemented (even though I felt like I was playing a different game in campaign) imagine a swords of sanghelios warzone map.

the problem is;
if they make BTB maps, they wouldnt have the time to finish other things. so instead of a warzone map we would get a BTB map. and tbh, there are some really good forged ones out there already. just make a monthly voting system…

To be fair 343 is hardly behind on the post launch map count. The standard first year map count is 6; H3 = 7 for $20, HR = 6 for $20, H4 = 12 for $40.
So far H5 has had; 2 new arena, 2 new Warzone, 1 new forge canvas and 4 remixes. even if you don’t count the remixes or the forge canvas thats still 4 with more coming.

Also multiple maps have been confirmed for the June update.
“Warzone Firefight will include the PvE mode with a variety of maps to play on, new game updates and features, Warzone and Arena maps, a plethora of Forge updates (including a new canvas and more), new REQs, and plenty more.”
So we have at least 1 Arena, 1 Warzone and 1 forge canvas coming in the June update.

It should be more than that. At launch each of the main playlists in past Halo games had more than just a couple maps. That is where they went wrong with Halo 5. At this point in these content updates, there should be far more, even with the new update for June coming.
