I think that 343 should add the official map callouts found in the Strategy guide under the Motion Sensor, like in Halo: Reach (but better). For example, if I’m on Bottom Mid on Haven, it should say so. That will help make competitive play more accessible, ahead of the CSR’s launch in April.
Why? The maps are in no way complex or big enough for it?
I think its pretty clear this game isnt competitively driven, so going by the 80/20 ratio frankie explained, they’ve already exceeded the 20% of effort put towards competitive
Yeah i agree with OP its nice and helps even in non competitive game is just a nice feature everyone then can know exactly where you calling out with having to try hard on learning call-outs just by paying attention to radar.
To be completely honest, those callouts were terrible. They were often 18 syllables and just inconvenient to say.
Most teams and the MLG community make their own callouts for each map, so if 343i put them in now, it would only confuse people.

These are all of the official callouts in the Strategy Guide.
They seem pretty short and easy to use IMO.

The callouts in the guide were made by MLG pros. They helped in writing the entire War Games section of it.
Why? If you don’t learn them either way it won’t help your team much.
> Why? If you don’t learn them either way it won’t help your team much.
This.
You have to learn the call outs to utilize them correctly. I mean you can say where you died and that helps just slightly but no casual player is going to be looking at the call out thingy in the middle of a rifle battle to say where he needs help. That will only happen if they take the time to learn them and make it second nature.
Plus, hardly anyone uses mics anyway, so what’s the point?
> Why? If you don’t learn them either way it won’t help your team much.
Personally, it would be easier to learn them if I had them on my motion sensor at all times.

I don’t see point of 343 spending time on adding callouts under the motion sensor when it still barely takes any time to learn them. Most callouts belong to the same objects, just around on different maps and some are just weapon spawns too. You will learn them over the period of one week at the very maximum.
The time can go to much better work.

I’m definitely not saying this should be one of their priorities and I’ll probably try to learn them on my own anyway (probably when CSR is up and I try to get a high rank). I’m just saying this having them under the motion sensor would make them easier to learn since they’re in front of you whenever you’re playing.

It always helps with written reminders obviously (This is something you can use your PC, Mobile or Pad for anyway). But since we don’t have the reminders in Halo 4, ask your friends. To communicate is one of the fastest ways someone can learn something without simply sitting down and memorizing it.
As I see it, we don’t need those “reminders” because of the technology we have, and it just isn’t a very good learning method to begin with any way.
Among several UI changes that leave my scratching my head. The map callouts, the red X…just, I dunno.
Because the maps are TOO symmetrical now and the colors are not prominent enough.
I can use dark side/light-side or Purple/Green, but frankly I have a hard time remembering which side of Haven is “Open” v “Closed” and I don’t have time to look around the tops of the wall while getting shot at on Adrift.
Those who are exceptionally skilled, have time to look up and memorize the callouts from MLG or Strategy guides and only play with friends would have no use for it. Heck - you might start calling something “Billy’s Tree” and everyone would know what you are talking about.
For an “average” player trying to play a pickup game with Randoms, it would be nice to use a common reference.
(For the record, I’d rather they prioritized tweaking JIP to delay starts a few seconds to try to refill the teams and not drop you on a losing team with 10 seconds to go, but this has value too.)
I thought the idea they tried in Reach was one of the few features that were perfectly implemented for that game, even though the callouts themselves were often too long and counter-intuitive. (ONE SHOT MAKEOUT POINT! lol) It wouldn’t have been too hard for 343/Certain Affinity to do the same system for H4, and it honestly would have been a huge plus for forge maps if you could edit “callout zones” with hill parameters and custom naming. That was my only real issue with the abundance of forge maps in MM with Reach other than the repetitive grey aesthetics; it was REALLY hard to find callouts that worked with teammates. Aside from naming it after a weapon spawn, attempted callouts always seemed to lead to confusion rather than fluid teamwork.

It’s red and blue dude, unless I missed something big. lol
Looking towards mohawk, the left side is open/red and the right side is closed/blue. On Adrift, you can easily tell what’s what by which halls have the lava looking stuff in the pipes, but generally using “our lift hall/low hall/attic” vs “their lift hall/low hall/attic” works well.
As for the “Billy’s Tree” thing, my friends and I started calling the different sides of bottom mid on Adrift weird stuff after watching Ninja’s callout vids.
“ONE SHOT STRICKLAND”
“THEY HAVE SCATTERSHOT ON THATHERTON”
Abandon always gets goofy callouts too it seems.
“TWO BY FLOOD -Yoink-”
“WEAK ON WHOMPING WILLOW”
I heard someone calling the back of ring 1 where the scattershot spawns “fish tanks” too. lol

Halo Reach wasn’t competitive either.
No one really used the the callouts. Most people used much shorter versions or simply things which are more obvious like “yellow lift” or “blue room”.
No one used the callouts in Reach, but they would have been nice to have still… but like was mentioned… they aren’t keeping it very competitive.

Whoops. I misread the OP and thought he said “They should add callouts” instead of “They should of the callouts that are already made in the Strategy Guide”.
I didn’t know there was such a thing.
Anyways, I barely looked at my radar to learn the callouts. Either I watched a quick video and practiced in game, or I went around each map with teammates and came up with easy names.
Screw the map callouts on the motion tracker. What needs to be brought back are the "X"s that show where a teammate died.
