Many fans hate Reach. Why?

I have always loved Reach and it has tied in second for my favorite halo games, it ties in 2nd with ODST. ODST was hated enough but I can see why. I’ve heard people say they don’t like it because it doesn’t follow the story of the book, which it isn’t based on, they just share the same setting. So why does Reach get so much hate (besides ranking and armor lock)

Probably because it was the last Bungie Halo game - and people expected a lot from it and Bungie. It was likely really hyped to the point of impossibility, and because fans expected so much out of Reach, they were never satisfied with the (IMO) solid prequel to the Halo series that they got.

True

I loved Reach personally. Some of my friends complained about the sprint mechanic, and how it copies CoD. I never really minded it, and there were other cool things to replace the sprint, like the active camo and hologram.

I think it was because it was so different to previous Halo - 3. Also multiplayer with spartan abilities, bloom etc. I personally liked the multiplayer, it wasnt the best, but it was very fun.

If I remember right, Reach was the game that started what some considered the “downfall of Halo” for a few reasons:

  • Lore fans said the story broke canon with The Fall of Reach - Loadouts - Bloom - Armour abilities and most infamously armour lock - Double melee exploit - Isolating competitive players to only 2 playlistsDespite these flaws, the game left a place in my heart making me to come back and remember why I love this game so much.

I see Reachs flaws and why some don’t like it but personally, reach is not only my favorite halo, it’s my favorite game in general. It’s far from perfect, but I love it nonetheless.

I always loved playing reach. but if there was one thing I didn’t like It would be the way sprinting was introduced because I always liked sprinting in halo 4 and 5 but in reach you could sprint but at the cost of not using things like active camo, bubble shield and the other upgrades

Yeah but I never thought bloom as a problem, it was still easy to aim with the reticle getting bigger

I think it was finally perfected in Guardians

The loadouts weren’t much of a problem to me, especially in invasion

It was a main problem. Rewarding players with high kill streaks and giving them advantage over others. This is simply unfair and takes competitivness out of the game.
