I have to say, I just love the feeling of using a Mantis in halo 4/5 but I must say i feel like the mantis seems…a little TOO easy to destory.
I know its just a 6 REQ’d vehicle but things like the tank & banshee, they can take out spartan after spartan. While poor Mr.Mantis needs to struggle getting a spartan who’s just constantly shifting and running towards you. Now with tanks, its an easy shoot-near-them and kill them and if you miss then you’ll be getting boarded but with the Mantis it’s quite a struggle to kill imcoming spartans and the stomp doesn’t really do much (sometimes it works, sometimes it wont)
My Idea is to either increase the radius of the stomps to push back spartans or to increase the accuracy cause i’d be honest, it’s HARD to try kill someone at middle range and if i got CQC then i end up dead.
You could say I suck at the mantis but again, this is just my point of view on it and feels like it needs to be “more worth” the 6 REQS due to it being fragile & easily boardable. (2 shots from a tank, BOOM, 1 boost of a wraith, DEAD, 1 guy on your legs, HISTORY) and this could be said with the phaeton, It’s so fragil and not worth 8 REQS (mostly why you never see one) Now the ONI & Hannibal are just fine, you can get multiple kills and still be in the battle without retreated but the mantises are the main target despite not able to deal that much chaos.
So again I feel like the Mantis needs are:
Harder boarding.
accurate chaingun / missles (they just scatter too far)
More of a threat.
This is a Mech we’re talking about, it’s suppose to feel great to be in it and feel strong, not a guy constantly swaying left to right, avoiding tank shells/ lasers/ boarders.
I think the biggest issue with the Mantis now is that you can board it from any direction, and from so far away as well. If somebody is within 10 meters of you while you’re using a Mantis, you’re dead. Seeing as how many Warzone maps have a lot of areas in which players can sneak around, using a Mantis is almost certainly going to lead to a player’s demise. On top of that, the chaingun on the vehicle is a bit too weak. More often than not, you’ll end up overheating before killing somebody.
I think Halo 4 had the Mantis down perfect, now that I think about it. It was a strong vehicle, but you could take it down if you knew how to play smart. You could get around 10 kills or more with it if you played well, which is fair considering that it’s a “power vehicle”. But in Halo 5? You’re lucky to get 3 kills before dying.
Agreed. The chaingun doesn’t really have any power behind it and is wildly inaccurate at medium ranges. The stomp seems to never work for me even if I land it right next to someone, and overall it’s health is very poor. Reduce it to REQ level 4 or 5 and it might be more worth it to me.
I’d like the Mantis’ rockets to have less spread uncharged and gain maximum spread when charged.
IF the Mantis is intended to be a close support platform as I suspect is its intent, allow it some ranged consistency with the uncharged shot having minimal spread.
Allowing the pilot to hit their target at range with leading is empowering AND being able to paint the rockets instead of spray them takes away that “I was cheaped” feeling.
If the charged shot is about ambushing, and the chaingun is really going to spread so greatly with seemingly AR-damage level, having a more spread out blast should give better anti-boarding defense.
A slower RoF for the uncharged shot with a much quicker release with a charge with benefit the idea of this buff. The ranged shots would be incoming in a slow pace so that some vehicles may lessen/avoid damage as the current spread intends. The charged shot would be a shotgun-like blast, and with the chaingun be a short-ranged/anti-boarding beast, but not spammable as such.
This should make the ONI feel really empowering.
The stomp, d****on’t allow boarding from the front when this animation is active. Some would say none at all but I’m willing for some risk-reward. And the above changes above give a big boost to forward capabilities.
But let it be known, the increase in armour recently was nice!
If they buffed the chaingun so It was as good as a warthogs, made it so one could be boarded from behind only and reduced the spread a little on the rockets it would be decent, but atm. Just no.

I got an inconceivable in H4 with the mantis. (35+ kills spree)
Maybe it was too strong.
But yeah, when I see a mantis in H5 I’m not even afraid of it.
That’s bad.

when I see a mantis in H5 I’m not even afraid of it too, cause i run to the next reg station-> plamsapistl. and my team mates can destroy them. Same with any vehicles
100% agree, mantises in H5 are terrible. We were given a mild buff where the req level was dropped from 7 to 6 but I don’t think thats enough. To me, the mantis-camo mantis range feel like an infantry support vehicle. I get tonnes and tonnes of assists but very rarely get a kill because the chaingun and rockets are so poor. The only mantises that feel like killing machines are the hannibal and ONI. They’re actually fun to use.
It is also ridiculous for Mantises to be rated as ultra rare to legendary. The basic and corp should be rare. All camo variants ultra rare and ONI and hannibal remain legendary.
To improve the mantis definitely agree that rear boarding must be brought back. The accuracy of the machine gun needs to be sharpened and the rocket reload time should be improved. On top of this the rockets need an AoE similar to the rocket launcher or at least the spnkr. They seem to do minimal damage if they are not direct hits. Also seems like they die WAY too easily.
the turret on the mantis has more spread and seems to deal less damage than a normal turret and the rockets have very little explosion radius and damage. Plus it shoots them all at once so you cant control them like you could in 4. Plus its armour is extremely weak and it can be boarded from the from. Its sad to know that I can beat a mantis user with a ghost ultra. Its goes the other way as well I always get beaten by a ghost ultra in a mantis. I get around 15 kills or more per use with a ghost ultra and only 5 with a mantis or less and yet the mantis is a level 7 req compared to 4 and an ultra rare compared to a rare.
They ‘fixed’ the Mantis in the same sense that they ‘fixed’ Prometheans… basically not at all.
The gun still doesn’t kill anything. The accuracy is abysmal and it just sprays everywhere except your target, getting 75% overheated before securing a single kill. Tighten the spread and yes, increase the damage. It won’t break the game.
