I’ve wondered this for some time, why does the Mantis have a -Yoink!-? Was the artist having some fun or is there a purpose?
Seems to be used for support when it’s unoccupied.

in lore - storage, ammo for combat variants. I think
Lower center of gravity maybe? I don’t know probably just a design choice. It’s not too strange.

I think its to lower the center of gravity.

Reading that post and replies is amazing. I have to find an archive of the images of the mantis pants.
What you call “Willy” I think it is the Mantis support stand when not Piloted
its actually the week spot of the mantis so I guess its male ! hahaha
I swear I never noticed it until this thread. It probably serves some purpose in the armor, though, and isn’t simply a joke by one of 343’s artists. Two ideas I have seen above are for structural support and/or containing ammunition, both of which are fairly likely.
For intimidating enemy vehicles. Duh.
Got to prove you’re the Alpha somehow.
Just be glad it doesn’t extend and retract.
It’s just the Mantis overcompensating for the fact that it’s weak.
