Mangler, Sword and Pulse Carbine being removed from ranked playlists

There is nothing wrong with subject weapons. The sword maybe, just tune it, but don’t get rid of it.

There will end up being no variety at all in ranked!

This is not HCS and it shouldn’t be!

where did you see this news?

It’s on the news section on here. Latest season 3 update:

  • Enemy footsteps are now harder to hear at a distance, but easier to hear when very close. We’ve also improved the accuracy of enemy location based on footstep audio when enemies are above, below, or behind you.
  • Removed from Ranked Arena: Mangler, Energy Sword, Pulse Carbine
  • Will receive future tuning: Disruptor, Spike Grenades

Followed the link from this:

to this:
https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/hcs-year-2-maps-modes-and-settings

and they say those weapons will be reintroduced later:

  • Mangler:
    • Will vault from competitive. Will undergo a rework in the future before being reintroduced.
  • Sword:
    • Will vault from competitive. Will undergo finer tuning before reintroducing as well as updated placing on maps better suited for the weapon.
  • Pulse Carbine:
    • Will vault from competitive, will explore a rework in the future.

Edit: removed double quote of Mangler/Sword section and added Pulse Carbine quote

What’s wrong with the Mangler now? or are they just doing it to swap it for the new weapons and equipment?

No idea why they didn’t just pull the Mangler from rank the first time instead of the global melee nerf that specifically nerfed the Mangler. And now they’re going to do more work on it. I just don’t get why they keep doing this.

What, people are using that weapon still?!

Welp, we can’t have that now can we! lol

This was directed at the Mangler specifically, I hate how these boards remove quotes for no reason, which removes context.

I mean as far as I know of raked and pro play basically had an unspoken agreement to no use the weapon at all and the melee nerf basically made it’s roll nonexistent in social games because almost anything else beats it currently.

The way I see it they only have a couple options to try and give them Mangler a reason to exist.

Option one

Re-buff/Denerf The Mangler back to pre-melee nerf to reinstate its CQC usefulness and move it to a tier 2 weapon sharing a rack with shotgun weapons instead of precision weapons.

Option two

Make adjustments to how the gun currently works ie adjustments to rate of fire, damage dealt, projectile drop and ammo. They can try to make it a more powerful more accurate Hand Cannon option that can rival the time to kill of the sidekick, but at closer range or they can increase its range to be more reliable at range.

Personally I would like to just see them do option one because that always felt like that’s what The Mangler was meant to be. It felt like it was a slug firing shotgun version of the Mauler from Halo 3 which could also do the Pop n Bop.

These weapons are only really useful in certain situations. The Mangler could have stayed as it was ( pre nerf ), it wasn’t an issue.
Except the sword, they are still not used that much. No one runs to collect these weapons because at the end of the day, they are not OP and never have been.

I enjoy BR starts, though I will grab other weapons, not because they are OP, but they are useful in certain situations if handled correctly. Changes up gameplay and can surprise the opposition. This is the whole point of having different weapons.

I still believe the Sword wasn’t nerfed because it was OP. It was nerfed because people didn’t like dealing with it. It’s really good though in the area it’s suppose to be good, but that’s to compensate that it’s absolutely terrible in every other situation you can imagine.

The problem is more so the maps in question then the weapon itself. Since it excels at close combat for obvious reasons, then place it in maps were close combat is generally going to be regular way you encounter people, that’s when people have an issue with it.

Now place it in a BTB map and you have to be very selective about using it. Even just showing you have it will get people to switch to a more defensive stance in order to counter you before you can really use it.

This is ridiculous!! And people wonder why practically no one watches or cares about the pro scene. It’s just so boring weapon wise. There’s no variety!!! People don’t just want to see one gun over and over and over again. They want VARIETY!!! It’s interesting and “cool” to see people get killed by different weapons. It makes people play differently when they do have different weapons. This is what so many people want, variety!!

This is another good reason why they need a Ranked Team Slayer playlist that’s not stupid HCS rules.

I’m at my wit’s end with how Halo is being run. It’s so sad

Edit I’m all for making weapons better, but removing them entirely until they get “fixed” isn’t the answer I think. Also, the pulse carbine has always been terrible! They should have just had a normal pulse rifle or a carbine like in past games.

Yeah, I get that.

Though according to all the “experts”, aren’t we supposed to have positional / map awareness, blah, blah and all the rest of it? ( rhetorical question )

Double standards and contradictions all seem to creep in, making a non issue more complex than it needs to be.

The mangler being pulled out is fine. It was still kinda’ busted and gentleman’s agreement’d out anyway.

LOL gentlemans agreement!! :person_facepalming:

Manglers not busted.

Ranked should have little to do with HCS…

Oh it’s you.

Yeah you clearly don’t understand it.

Certainly, it’s never you or anybody else! :person_facepalming:

The main complaint people had with the mangler was it dealing 50% shield damage, which combined with the drop weapon mechanic allowed for a very quick cleanup with a more reliable headshot-capable weapon. Now that the drops are slower I’m not sure why it still needs removal, but I don’t play ranked so I don’t really care.

Oh and the melee combo was obnoxious in social too and I’m glad it’s gone.

The main complaint the minority had with the Mangler, which essentially was a non issue in ranked or anything else.

Although there were other solutions than nerfing melee and removing the weapon, if needed.

That’s impressive, when I said “Oh it’s you.” I said, "Oh, it’s you."
You know, in that, “Oh, it’s this person. Hooray.”. As in, “There is nothing constructive to be gained from engaging with them.”

Yeah people who play this game for money.

Frankly it’s because the real issue was never addressed. Even with just switch - not drop - you can get two hits on the body and a BR burst and that’s that. There were so many at a time on a map, like, 3, that it was really just an auto-win to have at high enough ELOs.

So it was pretty toxic the better you got.

The proposed solution by the pros was to put it in the same tier as a shotgun, and that would have been fine. One at a time, red pad, low ammo, but still able to do its dumb melee combo and ridiculous 2s1burst, it’d be okay because it’s just… One on the map. Not three with like three separate reloads.

But the real issue, as stated, was never addressed. So they’re just pulling it, the sword and such, out. No need to GA anymore. Which is good tbh.

So Recharge won’t have any power weapons then? What was wrong with the sword there? (Answer: Nothing)
