I’m guna tag-team with forum member Zalrohg lekgolo on this one and go ahead and say something good about the game for once…
the lighting and graphics on this game are unreal. campaign is FRESH. the storyline is paving greatly and cortana died. one of the biggest THINGS to happen in the entire series.(id say blue team and halsey at the end of ghosts of onyx is number 1)and will shape a lot of storyline to come.
I would have to say the story is probably one of Halo 4’s weakest elements. It is more ambitious, yes, but perhaps too ambitious. Between the one-dimenstional villan that is the Ur-Didact, to barely explained plot points like how the Covenant are back and why to why the Librarian hid the Composer from the Ur-Didact on a Halo to Halsey’s imprisonment. Now to be fair, the books flesh out these details and I’ve read them all. But 343i said they would not be required reading and they failed to properly transition those details from the books to the games.
Throw in Trminals only viewable outside the game, some of which aren’t even reliable canonically, and you have a recipe for a weak story. The only saving grace was the development of Chief and Cortana’s relationship. However, that hardly makes up for the auho of Spartan Ops deciding that shooting Halsey and cutting off her arm then pretty bragging about how she deserves it in a weekly bulletin was a good idea. Still bitter about that.

i haven’t read the books and i understand the story completely, and about halsy being a prisoner some of them hate her because she abducted young children against their will to train them as soldiers which is higly immoral and yes i understand humanity would have being extinguished were it not for her (i agree with this point) im just trying to put across the view of a lot of people that she basically performed science experiment on indoctrinated children.

i was not impressed by the lame intro to legitimate forerunners, human nationalism shoved down my throat, stupid characters, and the chief-cortana love story.

Her arm is cut off at the end of Spartan Ops to stop the bleeding and saving her life.

I don’t remember which update it was, but they said they did that and blew Requiem up because ‘it was cool’

Chief and Cortana relationship. Partnership. Not a love story, but you start to face the true relationships you have with someone who has literally been inside your head for years when that partner is dying.

I will agree that many things weren’t able to be explained well in-game, mainly to new people.
Especially the Covenant.
If the campaign was longer, I think it could have been the best of the trilogy. That would allow perhaps another mission, and more room to explain. Longer Librarian-style cutscenes.
Terminals were a sketchy part, I only really follow the first parts and then the Didact’s mutation. I like Silentium’s depiction of the events next better, which is odd considering the terminals seem to follow a completely different timeline with it, including location.
Spartan Ops is a different story. And I meant that as discussion for another day

I can’t remember which bulletin, but Brian Reed said it, a well known Halsey hater

guess it was too complicated for them to simply take out the bullet, treat the wound with anti-biotics, and cover it.

They might not have been able to stop internal bleeding.

It was better than Reach, 3 and the Chief segments in 2, and judging it had a fairly smaller team and less development time I’d say the story was great

I think it’s because Sangheili believe having doctors is dishonourable

they are technologically thousands of years ahead of us and had to provide medical care to 8 species. i think problems with internal bleeding for them should be a thing of the past.

i would think that a species that hates losing blood would want to concentrate on medicine as much as possible instead of amputations.
Being a doctor in Sangheili culture was a disgrace, a dishonor.
Medical care wasn’t specifically their field, though there were some doctors. Perhaps engineers or something were main “doctors”.
And Halsey probably lost quite a bit of blood from her shooting to the time they had her on the ship. She was passed out (unless just taking a nap) in the arms of that Elite. Perhaps they believed they didn’t have time to risk doing any precise medical stuff, not to mention they probably don’t know much about operating on Humans. Most of them probably didn’t even see the point of saving this Human.
Still, it was kind of sudden and unexpected. Not my preferred way to make someone a little upset.
