“Spartans are trained always be efficient in combat, even after suffering suit damage.”
or
“Respawn with a random buff/debuff. 50 kills to win.”
Trying to think of fun and different gametypes that we could see going forward instead of simply asking for old ones to return, I came up with Malfunction. Malfunction can be played in Teams or Free For All and is inspired by the Campaign modifier skull of the same name. Since War Games is supposed to be Spartan training, it makes sense that all situations would be considered, including when a Spartans suit, visr, or subsystems are damaged.
When you spawn and respawn, a random debuff or buff (or both) will be applied to your Spartan. Not everyone will have the same modifier as you, and every time you spawn it will change to a different one. You have to quickly adapt to do well.
There would be three modes you can set in the Settings; Give, Take, and Give and Take. Give simply gives you a random buff on spawn; Damage Boost, Speed Boost, Overshield, for example. Take simply gives you a debuff; no radar, no shields (or no shield recharge), no thrusters, for example. Give and Take does both, but they’re not completely random. Instead the debuff/buff will be bunched together into sets, and you will randomly get a set instead. An example of this would be no thrusters, but you have Speed Boost. No shield recharge, but you have Overshields. No radar, but you have Damage Boost.
This sort of scenario could be seen as very casual or even Action Sack-y. And I totally agree and I don’t think there’s a problem with that.
So what do you think of the idea? Like it? Hate it? Think it can be improved in some way? Let’s get a discussion going on something that hasn’t been beaten to death.
TL;DR Fiesta with player traits instead of weapons.
