I once said in an earlier post that Warzone was really bland and easy to relate to in other gamemodes (Something I did not add in my last post) and i’ve come to pick up on that with a better knowledge on the idea. I last stated that Warzone was too simple and bland by how same the maps are and nothing different. Well, I was right about that and I want to touch up on it to make it more entertaining to play like interactive environments. Instead of having open and close gates like Skirmish at Darkstar, but I believe it isn’t enough to change the gameplay. I dont even see people use the gates as if they forgot that was added into the map.
So, I have thought out of other ways that impacts the speed of the game, and how to make it an actual game changer besides killing some 150 point boss or how better your REQ weapons are. In my old post, many people liked that I thought of a base that was a moving mammoth around the map with a retractable back gate like in Halo 4. And no, it cant spawn vehicles (I made like 2-3 horrible ideas after that). After that idea, it made me think that game changers shouldnt be on design of that map but the quality of the map’s gameplay! Such as:
A factory warzone map where it isn’t just defending three bases and rotating generator that auto powers off for the main building. And the generator is located at a different area equally away from other buildings. So, whoever owns the main building needs to head to that generator if they want to keep it the building’s REQ stations alive.
A deserted map for warzone where all around the game, a dust storm frequently comes by and devours the exposed areas of the map for a about a minute (meaning such as tunnels, buildings, caves are not devoured by the storm) and anyone caught outside the buildings or into the storm will get their shields to slowly deplete. Vehicles are not affected by the storm but it will neglect vision a little.
A snow type of warzone map taken place on a Halo Ring where there are holo bridges that can be activated/deactivated that actually effect vehicle ground movement around the map. And no, it wont just effect the enemy’s vehicle movement but both sides of the team’s movements on the map. That way, people actually know that if the enemy is winning/losing, you can try to punish them by shutting down bridges to zone your enemy or just give your team some breathing space.
A flaw people could think is that some people could play just to have fun and not focus on objectives. That can be true, but these ideas arent made for people to feel as if they were playing ranked warzone, but having variety on what they are doing. I rather be getting objectives to help my/team’s survival rather than waiting around on the highest tower, camouflaged, and sniping randoms roaming around trying to “help” their team by constantly bringing out better REQs and looking for people to kill. Besides, with how important objectives can be… im sure it can lead to better conflicts that bring enemy’s to you rather than searching for enemies.
Ideas like that actually make me want to play these maps frequently if they were on warzone. Instead of having the same type of gameplay with a big or small map, seeing maps like like what I exampled make me excited to play the map because of how new it feels. All maps dont need to have variety, but it will be fun to have some that actually gives me something to do during the game when I dont have the next best REQ in my hands.
If warzone was kind of like the Halo wars game. Say you don’t want to deal with the elites and you want to head to the boss, you can call some ODST’s to help distract them or something like that call in airstrikes or whatever. Probably just play around with some ideas.
The dust storm idea sounds nice, but would be cooler if it would actually change the open part of the map like making new hills are removing.
But this will never happen as it would increase lag.
Some of the ideas you’ve talked about actually sound really great. I love the idea of the factory map and the Halo ring, the holo bridges would be such a good addition in my opinion. I feel like these sorts of maps would make Warzone more diverse rather than just killing players and fighting for a boss kill every now and then. Instead the other maps would have a different objective that was more individual and suited to that map, whether or not the boss objective system was still in place for these maps. We do need maps where players can have an impact on the way the map plays, such as openable doors and bridges.
The down side i see for a lot of these Halo Wars style maps would be the time it would take to traverse and get to different areas of the map. The size would need to be quite large. Would probably need to bump up to 16 v 16 to keep things interesting
I am always more fonded with a map’s gameplay than changes within the map. Like for example CoD Ghost, I never liked how the idea of dropping a bomb changes the terrain or earthquake or shooting down a log or gas station. Of course it would change something but only for a brief moment and from then, it would go back to a normal pace throughout the rest of the match.
Having map gameplay change besides map changes actually make the game frequently going and how to plan your next tactic. It doesn’t have to be planning but to be knowing an opportunity when you see one that can actually turn the tide of the game.
Either forcing combat, making the game more passive or having the choice to both. It. An really make the game more fun than fighting the next 150 point Tankmaster Lok.
WZ could definitely use some more variety, either new modes or new features in normal WZ, but 343 still needs to fix the major issues in the mode first - specifically the snowball effect and how the boss takedowns work (along with the annoying REQs don’t work glitch)
Once those are fixed, 343 should definitely look into adding more into WZ, maybe a map on Suanion/Genesis since both those locations look amazing in the campaign.

Are you still experiencing the REQ glitch? I haven’t in a couple months

I had a small glitch recently where I called in a Vorpal Talon and Active Camo, and neither of them spawned even though I lost the energy.
As for the one where the station doesn’t work, I haven’t had that in a while either, so I guess that’s a good sign

Aaaaaahh yeah I had the same thing happen, I called in a Spnkr and it consumed it but didn’t spawn it in.
