Making Forge more user friendly and efficient

One thing that forge in Reach has backwards is the way coordinates work. You’re in “free edit mode” (i.e. no coordinates) by default and have to go through a series of menus to go into coordinate mode. Wouldn’t it make more sense if by default you snapped to the nearest or next coordinate when you moved a piece in any direction, and you could deactivate coordinates and move pieces slower by clicking and holding the left stick? This system just makes more sense in my opinion. It would increase the speed at which you can precisely place an objec. And make it easier for new forgers to get a grasp on the system (because frankly, most new players don’t know how the hell to use coordinates, and this reduces the quality of maps).

Also, when you click LS in on Reach, it slows down object movement speed, why not slow down object rotation speed as well? Just a thought.

That would cause problems when moving objects in a direction not perfectly aligned to the coordinate grid, especially if movement is slowed whenever the snaps are disabled.

If they don’t have the minimal curiosity required to hit “B”, see “Edit Coordinates”, and select it, then they probably don’t have the design knowledge required to build good maps regardless of how easily they can use Forge.

This is a good idea.

How would it exactly? You just move it to the nearest coordinate then click the stick in and perfectly align it, seeing as the coordinates are close together you would probably have to move it at slow speed for 5 seconds max

Again, how? That just shows they are unfamiliar with the forge, it in no way means they are a bad map designer. I’ve seen tons of maps that had the potential to be be fun but were ruined by the uneven objects killing the aesthetics

Thanks

you got to remember that wall colosiums and buildings are not on the coordinate gride, atleast not correctly.
so THAT would create problems, in order to anything you said youd need to completely change controls and probably a bit of code (im not a comp wiz and i know that) but the slow down thing seems like a good idea, for the snaps.

Damn I didn’t think of that D:

But this idea is for Halo 4. So I was hoping this problem wouldn’t exist then?

Reach forge is noob friendly enough.

Also all you do is press B when you are holding an object to get to its coordinates… that is easy enough.
