Making a case for Contingency's removal

Last october 343 added a gametype to Halo 5’s Infection mode called Contingency. Its a linear infection mode where players run from area to area trying to survive as long as possible. In theory this is a pretty fun gametype, and in custom games I’ve seen people enjoying it and having a good time. But in matchmaking the gamemode is unbalanced, has numerous glitches and in my opinion is extremely unfair to casual players.

Here I want to list all the flaws with the current Contingency maps in the rotation as well as provide a link to every game over 150 kills that has currently been achieved in matchmaking. Even 100 kills in an infection match is an absurdly high amount, and should only be achievable in the luckiest games very rarely by players. The number of 100 kills games in contingency is way too high to list.

Overall

  • Last man takes 3 hits to die, and the shields recharge so fast that humans can survive a sword swing when they have less than half shields.
  • Last man has no marker above their head, meaning players can hide completely to avoid being seen and zombies can’t easily tell where the last man is.

Coastal highway

  • There is a scorpion tank on display in the zombies spawn that humans can access by simply thrusting against an invisible barrier and doing parkour up the zombies spawn location.
  • I have experienced many games where the bridge at 3:10 does not spawn which means the only way across is to jump using a thrust, this glitch also makes the zombies continue to spawn at the initial spawn instead of the 2:40 spawn above the second area.
  • Similar to the last point, sometimes the doors at 1:50 do not open and this results in all humans and zombies being teleported to the next area at 1:20.
  • The second and third areas of this map are way too open and the zombies only have 1 method of attack. Zombies spawn on the roof and have no option but to jump down to the ground before attacking, this takes 2-3 seconds and leaves them completely open to AR / SAW / Sniper fire. There is no other way around, no teleporters.
  • There are over 100 shotgun shells in this map combined with respawning shotguns in the last area.
  • You can look almost directly at the zombies spawn area in the last area with the chaingun turret and prevent them from leaving as the only way around the back of the ship requires a running slide jump. This jump takes longer than the TTK with the chaingun turret.

The Green zone

  • All areas of the map after the door opens at 3:10 are way too open and it is extremely hard for zombies to attack. The teleporters in the second area do not help at all you can throw grenades into the room that zombies teleport to, and they have to jump out into the open before they can get back into cover.
  • The last area is almost as open as a BTB map, the zombies only have two teleporter options, both of which are extremely predictable and humans can sit far enough away that zombies have literally 0 chance of infecting them.
  • In the last area, you can look directly at the zombies spawn with the CE pistol and kill zombies with 1 shot headshot as soon as they spawn. A grenade launcher is also provided which can be shot directly into the spawn. Humans can also sit on top of the barrier and spawnkill zombies with the shotgun.

Bleak Rock

  • In the first area, players can thrust up the side of a rock right next to the human initial and camp on the rock outside of the map. Zombies must lunge twice in order to hit players here due to the invisible blockers.
  • In most games, all humans camp by the door or outside by human spawn in the first area and the zombies have no choice but to run in the open to infect them. Most amateur zombies will not be able to infect anyone at all for the first minute of gameplay.
  • In the third area, there is once again not enough cover for zombies and the only teleporter options lead them straight into the open both ways. Humans can sit on top of the walls outside the map in this area. This area extends at 1:10 but the zombies spawn stays completely the same and basically makes it even harder for zombies to get any infections.
  • The shotgun in the final area respawns frequently.

The Burrows

  • Zombies do not have enough time to infect humans in the first area, only 40 seconds from 3:50 to 3:10. The teleporters are very predictable and if a human is watching the side teleporter, zombies are basically trapped in that room and will die instantly when jumping out.
  • The chaingun turret and SAW in the second area are too strong and the only paths for zombies to take to the humans are extremely linear. There are 3 paths, the bottom path with very limited cover, and two side paths which each only have a crate almost next to the zombies spawn.
  • Once the door to the second area opens, humans can sit with the chaingun turret above the room where you are supposed to drop down to and farm the zombies respawn, as there is only one place for them to spawn after 1:50.
  • In the last area humans have access to a mantis and the Jorge’s chaingun. The zombies spawn in the same tiny box room, and can either walk out and get melted by lots of humans camping with shotguns, or teleport to a tiny box room at the other side of the map that the mantis can shoot explosives into.

The most annoying part is that as a community we have expressed these issues many times and 343 have responded saying they’ll look into it. That was in February and nothing has changed, this gamemode has pushed many people away from the game as personally I dont play it at all. I match it far more than any other gamemode despite there only being 4 maps in rotation, this just leads to many many sessions of just restarting the game rather than actually playing it. Please remove

Yeh Infection has needed an overhaul for a while. Don’t like power weapons being in Infection plus the maps with vehicles mostly end up with people betraying team-mates and Contingency mostly seems to involve people cheating by glitching to places where they shouldn’t…hence where’s no clamber on certain parts of the maps, yet they somehow get into weird places and the spawn camping is something that should be fixed like they could have at least put a one way shield to give Infection a chance to avoid being spawn trapped. As for people getting over 100 kills…I suspect foul play with them so easier to report them after game if you suspect them.

Also you may want to edit your previous post, believe you can mention the games but not the name of players.

A warning for the bleak rock glitch(s), you’re able to get to zombie spawn in the first and last room. The last room is too hard tho, and you have like 1 min left anyway so I didnt showcase it.

A lot of these glitches are very broken, there is still a lot that I either didnt showcase or haven’t found yet. Some of which are insanely too OP, I have show cases a lot that are way too broken, but the more I show, the worse contingency becomes to play. Remove contingency please.

Please 343 relook into this. Contingency is such an awful gamemode. We all want regular infection and alpha zombies. Thats more than enough. Please just fix this 343.

Or at the very least reduce the amount we match contingency because it seems to be all there is nowadays
