While I like the Halo Infinite gameplay so far, one of the things I notice is how service tags are not included in matchmaking modes so far in this flight. At the moment, it seems we just get to see a blue dot above our allies heads, instead of their servicetag (or gamertag) above their head. This can also seemingly be confirmed based on the settings UI.
If you go to Settings > UI > Markers and Banners > Player Marker Display, the description says, “Set whether to display Gamertags or Service Tags on player markers in Custom Games”.
I don’t understand the point of limiting service tags to custom games only, since each player has a dot over their head so we could find their location anywhere anyways. To me at least, I find it easier to find my teammates (especially a specific teammate), if there is a service tag or gamertag over my allies heads at all times. Not to mention, red vs blue being removed could make service tags more useful, since while the color outlines is nice, the service tags can make it easier to notice allies and foes in a team game. It could also make communication with teammates easier in matchmaking as well, especially playing in ranked or with friends in matchmaking to coordinate better. Because at the moment, it is kind of guess work based on what teammate is which since it’s just a solid blue dot with no additional info.
While this isn’t a “game breaking” decision to currently exclude gamertags or service tags over ally heads in matchmaking modes, to me at least this is could be something that is so little, yet can help improve experiences in matchmaking a little more.
