Make Objective Items One Hit Kill Again

That’s the idea

  • in CTF, you’re supposed to work as a team to clear out the enemy base, wipe their team out THEN get the flag and escort your carrier.
  • in oddball, you’re supposed to wipe out the enemy, get the ball, get to a power position/playable position then defend your carrier

They’re supposed to be disadvantaged to make run and grab undesirable

Just no.

It’s fine like it is, if you’re having an issue defending yourself it’s not the game.

I disagree. At least in Ranked they shouldn’t be one hit kills.

It encourages team work and makes matches more competitive when the objective items don’t kill with one hit. In Oddball, people should drop the ball for the duration of a team fight or otherwise every defensive fight is essentially 3v4. It also makes defending the ball and scoring simultaneously more risky, so at the same time it also gives the attacking team more opportunities for a comeback when they can force the other team to stop scoring for a moment (which also creates more competition as Oddball matches in Ranked often tend to be really close). And when the flag carrier in CTF can’t kill enemies with one melee, it means others need to defend the carrier better. It also encourages the carrier to throw the flag forward (which people should do more often since it’s the fastest way to deliver the flag).

As for the “every other Halo was like that” point, that isn’t completely true. The melee damage was always normal in ranked. Regardless, it’s better for competitive matches, as I explained above, if the items don’t kill with one melee. I have had so many close matches in Ranked objective games at Diamond-Onyx level thus far. Most of all when playing Oddball.

I wouldn’t really care too much if the objective items were one hit kills in quickplay though, but they should do normal melee damage in ranked. Quickplay obviously doesn’t need to be very competitive, but Ranked should definitely remain as it is.

Also, I often see the argument that it discourages people from playing the objective when the items don’t kill with one hit. But defending the objective and maintaining a setup for it is as much playing the objective as holding the objective item is.

:100: percent agree flag and ball hits should be one hit kills. Carriers are already vulnerable enough and movement is even slowed down. Hits are really the only weapon they got… Should be one hit kills, that should be the penalty for getting so close to a carrier.

I was miffed about this at first but I feel the games are playing well without one hit kill.

Plus how easy would the achievement be to get three ball kills in a game if it was OHK - on a lighthearted note.

Past Halo games had them at 1 hit kills, Halo 4 - 5 allowed guns to be wielded. What are you going on about?
Team work worked fine then and still does, but In solo situations or 99.9% of the time, you can’t rely on your team if you’re going for objectives and others are just going for kills.

It’s not about defending yourself, its about relying on your team to have your back so you don’t have to defend yourself.
This Halo game literally notifies the enemy team of where you are when you sprint with the objective or are transporting the Objective, where past Halo’s relied on the enemy team to spot you to mark you.

Ah, finally stopped using that annoying font.

But still with the annoying attitude.

Halos can be balanced in different ways, I’ve fully explained above the idea behind the balancing in THIS game and so has 343 in the comment JB_Linken has posted above

You can’t even use equipment with them. Grapple makes sense, but Shield or repulse? Come on.
