Does anybody know which developer is writing Halo Wars 2? Because I don’t think I’m the only one who found Halo Wars’ story to be lacking when it released back in 2009. The story felt as though it was a retelling of Halo: CE with the UNSC landing upon an unknown Forerunner world while battling the Covenant, only to come across the Flood and be forced to destroy the world through an unconventional means.
Worst of all, the characters were sterile and lifeless. Well, so were Bungie’s I guess. But at least they included enjoyable archetypes (e.g. Johnson) despite being underdeveloped and silly at times. But Halo Wars’ characters were boring as well as generic. Cutter was your typical leader, Forge could be any other Marine, and the Arbiter was a generic bad guy. The only interesting characters were Serina and Anders, and they came across as boring and flat due to their voice acting and dialogue.
I just want Halo Wars 2 to have a great story like other classic Halo games including Halo: CE, Halo 2 and Halo 4. Create a story that will innovate rather than copy; include twists and turns; and give us interesting characters which develop along with the story.

We don’t know yet. Considering that it’s Serina who awakens the UNSC Spirit of Fire’s crew, the start of the game probably will not be more that several years after the events of the original game, due to the prospect of Serina’s Rampancy. That is unless the crew forcefully suspended her processes to stave off rampancy or if the game naturally jumps forward after the ship is rescued.
I’m personally hoping at least part of the game is set in the Reclaimer Saga and ties into modern events.
