Make All DLC Free?

I am suggesting this to help improve the population health knowing full well some of the people that have purchased these maps might get mad that everyone else gets them free, but for me as someone who has bought them all and only gets to play DLC maps only once in a while… I get more annoyed not being able to play them.

This would do two things;

  1. Promote the game, making everything free will bring in some players and boost the population (looking back seeing the population of Tuesday was in the low 13,000 looks like it needs a boost).

  2. Allow forced DLC across the board and reduce playing the same maps over and over again.

Personally, I have almost stopped playing Halo 4 altogether, Halo 3’s population almost rivals Halo 4’s on some days and I personally find Halo 3 more fun and fair to play, that said, if I had a guaranteed chance to play an assortment of new maps on Halo 4, I might switch back because I never really got to play them since those DLC playlists tanked after about a week and a half.

All that said, I really hope 343i has some innovative ideas to keep Halo 4 running for however long until Halo 5 comes because I don’t feel much holding me to this game; heck, the risk of alienating the remaining fanbase that still plays I would almost suggest re-launching the multiplayer with a massive update changing as much as possible, trying something different just to see if it revitalizes the game.

Possible options would be:

Introduction of visual and real competitive ranks.

Revamp of base player traits, allowing playlists not rely on the integrated perk system and allow the former base player traits.

Introduction of a REAL Team Slayer playlist, give it 1-50 visual ranks, same general settings from Halo 3 as well as a few other competitive playlists, as well as maybe having social ranks similar yet apart from competitive ranks(the social ranks in Halo 3 drove me to try and get the rank Brigadier General, which in turn made me not want to quit games due to lost EXP).

That’s about all I can think of, I know what I said about DLC would be controversial but at this stage, this game needs anything and everything to revitalize it.

Sure Halo 5 might sell well enough, but pumping some more work into Halo 4, will probably translate into a hell of a lot of happy fans and probably even more sales, as well as showing the Halo community that 343i understands, because from my personal view, the players have already voted, not with their wallet but with their time and choice of what they are playing.

I agree with this. At this point it doesn’t matter. I want to play my maps.

I also agree with this. Unfortunately Microsoft would never let them do it because Halo is there cash cow now. Milking it for every cent they can.

I am so sick of the default maps. Free DLC would be a godsend, and given that the population is at an all-time low, giving us 9 free maps (I’d understand if they held off with Champions) could be an effective way to boost it.

I mean, they did it with Halo 2. Why not 4?

I don’t think Microsoft policy allows it.

I am rather surprised by the good reception of this thread. Awesome.

I think Microsoft can bend rules or find back-doors to get things done if need be, I just am starting to feel something big needs to be done to keep me interested in Halo 4, because as it stands… Halo 3 is a great deal more fun to play on average than Halo 4 for myself and a few of my friends.

Maybe free after a year.

Nope

Microsoft wouldn’t bend the rules, especially this late in the 360s lifespan…

They wouldn’t t do it for valve, they wouldn’t do it for assassins creed, and I doubt they would do it for 343

What did valve/Ubisoft need?

I really doubt it seeing as how Halo 3 map packs are still not free for download if you buy them on the MP and that game is way older and it actually required the maps to play the game online.

So even tho it would be nice it is very unlikely they will do it, Reach maps arent free nor will Halo 4 be.

The unique difference between those games and Halo 4 is that Halo 4 must carry the franchise for at least a year until the next game comes out, and at this moment this game is so far in the red something really drastic has to happen.

Coming from someone who has bought all the map packs, I have to say this is a good idea. The game is a year old already and I doubt that much more money is going to be made on the DLC.

After it is made free make DLC required across all the playlist. So they have to go and download them.

343 needs to add a selectable search parameter in Halo 5, that will make players you search for require the DLC. So you will end up having longer search times, but every player you get matched with will have the DLC, then if you stay in that group you don’t have to worry about search times all that much either.

Click the video link, I go a bit more in depth with this. It is around the time of 12:00 mins.

Enjoy!

I agree with another poster: if they do make the DLC free, then they should also gradually introduce DLC requirements to ensure that people download it. They could give players a heads-up in the welcome screen, or even (if the engine allows it) edit the game UI to inform people that the required DLC is free.

I remember reading somewhere that Microsoft required audio settings on every Xbox game… except Halo. Not sure if it’s true, but… :\

As a LE owner who has payed for all the maps since day one of Halo 4’s release, I can say without hesitation that I wouldn’t care if 343 turned around and decided to give out all the DLC for free. In fact I’d endorse it.

DLC in its current state is worthless and at the end of the day I’d rather play on it than not, irrespective of whether someone else has gotten it for free.

This is a really good idea that should be implemented. At this point 343 has to do something with the DLCs because it’s basically impossible to play on all of the DLC maps.

It’s Microsofts policy so technically they could release the DLC free if they wanted although it won’t happen. Hopefully in the future they realize the error of their ways and try something different like free maps and charge people for premium armor or weapon skins. Things that don’t affect gameplay or population numbers by dividing a community.

DLC Maps…

SERIOUSLY, as a community, those of us who have purchased the DLC are being ripped off.
First, we buy the maps and support the game, but we are in the minority. This is understandable seeing that most people won’t buy the DLC which causes some of us who have to stop buying it because we BARELY get to play on said maps.
Second, we get NO benefits from buying the DLC. There are no incentives for people to purchase DLC and as such we get crapped on from the above reason and the fact that 343i etc. doesn’t value our business.

IMO, there are several solutions:

  1. Implement a DEDICATED DLC Slayer playlist and an Objective DLC playlist in each HALO where ALL the DLC maps are in those playlists and the playlists NEVER get removed. This way, those of us who have DLC maps can use them and are appreciated by 343i.
  2. Bestow an EXCLUSIVE emblem, Armor skin, etc. to those who DO BUY the DLC. This would show customer appreciation, because frankly it’s pointless to buy DLC which we never get to use in MM.
  3. Enforce DLC to be required for MM. This has been attempted in the Team Slayer playlist and the population of the playlist diminished greatly when it was implemented, so this only seems to alienate or deter people from the DLC.

Truly, imo, Halo is meant to be played on various maps, not just default game maps. Variety is always better and why should those of us who have spent OUR money on DLC be shafted for our support?
My final solution is strict, but it’s a brainstorm…
Limit the amount of playlists available to those players without DLC. If they aren’t willing to purchase the DLC and support the game, then they should have less options in which to play the game. Those who HAVE bought DLC would get full access to ALL playlists, PLUS exclusive Armor, emblems and perhaps an exclusive playlist.

It’s infuriating to purchase something and then not be able to use it.
This issue needs to be addressed and resolved.

i would really appreciate it. even though i payed for some maps,
i dont get them to face. for example i bought the champions bundle
already a few ago and didn’t see vertigo or pitfall once.
i’d rather let them make them free and get to play for what i payed
sometime ago then seeing them rarely or don’t see them at all.

Make it cheap now - $5 for all of them.

Then right before school gets out in the Spring, make it all free/required.

That would definitely anger the people who have already bought the DLC, and they would not continue to make money off of it.

Bit honestly think it’s a good idea if it could be done. At this point, I just want to play on the maps I paid for.
