I’ll admit that some (ie. 2 for 1 laser) in H3 may have been a bit over the top, but Reach over-compensated for these complaints far too much. When people asked for easier achievements, I don’t think this is at all what they had in mind.
The achievements in Reach were primarily just about time (get Rank X, buy item X, etc.) rather than doing some kind of a “feat.” Half of them you don’t even need to be present in the game for, you could just be AFK and you would get them over time.
Take the Invasion achievement, for example… you don’t even need to play the game, you can be completely AFK and eventually you will get teammates who are able to Win a game in the first phase and unlock your Skunked! achievement. Same with “An Honour Serving,” “The Start of Something,” “Be My Wingman, Anytime,” “Make it Rain” and “Make it Drizzle.” These are just boring!
Now admittedly the majority of achievements should be, and are meant to be, more achievement-based. I’m by no means suggesting that we change that all-together, simply that we have a bit more variety by adding in a handful or so of cool/difficult “feats” to spice it up a bit. The standard, “get rank X” is fine, but there’s no need for half a dozen repeats.
The multiplayer achievements should have some unique fun and out of the ordinary feats, not just things that will eventually pop up after a few games (even when specifically trying to avoid them).
Examples:
- Reverse Perfection: Lose a slayer match with at least 15 kills & 0 deaths
- Tactical Strike: Stick an opponent from super long-range
- Parachute Kamikaze: Splatter an opponent while not in a vehicle (Ex. jump out of banshee)
- Oversist: Earn 4 assists in under 4 seconds
This can also apply to daily/weekly challenges, only on a more easy scale.
- 2 Birds: Earn a 2-for-1 kill with the sniper rifle
- DUI: Destroy an enemy vehicle with at least 3 players in it
- Psych!: Kill an enemy with an empty sword
- Turbulence: Take down an enemy banshee with an EMP blast
- Any Last Words?: Earn a sticky kill from the grave
From what you’ve suggested, I honestly think these ideas would be better for daily challenges. As far as I’m concerned, Achievements should specifically be for milestones or great feats achieved. The little stuff you offer sound like what challenges in Reach should be like. I’m honestly sick of the “Kill 200 grunts” or “Complete 10 games”. When you have interesting ones, such as “Go on a Splatter Spree”, “Steak the opposing team” or “Kll the enemy driver from the passenger seat”, there is much more incentive not go out of your way to do the challenges.
True, they should be real milestones. But some should be just for fun. I mean, I loved ‘If They Came To Hear Me Beg’ in Reach. A real feat, that can be both a challenge and an achievement.

Yeah, I’m not talking about all of them.
The “Milestone” ones like Lt. Colonel or beating the game on Legendary should still be there of course, just not so many constantly repeated… I mean I listed 6 straight there that could be achieved strictly through AFK’ing in Invasion for a couple days. Is it really necessary to have that many just for one thing?
I think it would just be nice to have a handful or so of “wow, good job on getting that one” type of achievements.
On second review though, I definitely know what Zap is saying… perhaps my examples are also too easy because they don’t really fit that “awesome job getting that achievement,” type of feel I was looking for, except for the Reverse Perfection.
Going to do some work now but I’ll be thinking of better ones to add while away, and put the easier ones into example suggestions for challenges.
Some of the Vidmasters from H3 and ODST were fun. Especially the Annual achievement. It’s hard but I had more fun with that achievement than any other achievement.
Alright, I updated the OP to explain it a bit better and separated it into achievements and challenges.

Good point, I completely forgot about vidmasters. I never ended up doing Annual because none of my friends played anymore, but I’m sure it would have been a ton of fun.
