Probably late to the party in complaining about this. These are well designed maps but the amount of power weapons is utterly ridiculous for a competitive map. Even the more ‘average’ weapons are things like needlers and plasma pistols that get you cheap kills, a solid map could be based around 2 or 3 of these elements, instead of 8/9, including power ups. I think these maps are being really spoilt by the weapon choices and they shouldn’t remain in ranked arena like this.
Detachment? You might have point. But Empyrean? It’s a remake of H3’s Pit. The weapon spawns are meant to more or less be similar.
The Pit originally had: 2 snipers, 2 shotguns, OS and AC, a sword, rockets and 2 chainguns. Plus some equipment thrown around.
tl;dr: Old school Halo just had more weapons in general.
I still can’t believe the rockets have two extra rounds. With two snipers, overshield and a heatwave. Wild times!
I started halo with 2 back in the day, so yeah I’m aware it wasn’t balanced well like it is now. The remake plays ridiculously, you can have meaningful weapon spawns without a tonne of power weapons on the map. Mid tier weapons would do fine. And if the answer is that players wouldn’t go to those areas to collect mid tier weapons, then the problem is with the map itself and shouldn’t be in competitive rotation.
Ridiculous isn’t it! So hard to have any kind of strategy or make reasonable plays when every other player has a power weapon. It’s hectic and not competitive at all
These 2 guns require some of the most skill in halo games if you want to use them properly
Plasma Pistol: making sure you get the most use out of the ammo and not just having it charged the whole time then only get one kill with it.
Needler: many weapons outshoot someone who is unskilled with the needler, but good users know to look for the weapons your target has and use those to your advantage.
Like I said, incredibly deadly when used right. Rant Over.
I mean back in Halo 3, the map played well because there was no sprint. Now with sprint and those rockets, it’s happened multiple times where the team that gets rockets caps the first flag within the first minute and a half to two minutes. Much faster pace compared to bazaar or catalyst.
The snipers and the rocket are fine power weapons. Its the ammo capacity within them. They provide too much dominance for such simple work with a even chance of a coinflip.
