Seriously . in my honest opinion , 343 should have stuck with the original Forward Unto Dawn’s design . The hangar bay was removed and the ship feels so much bigger when it was not and the revealed full length of the ship reveals that the front half of the ship was changed too . I seriously hope 343i has a good reason for smearing the iconic design of the UNSC Frigate .

Well they could give a reason but like the Chief’s armor people would just complain about it so I think they’re going to stick with “Artistic License” at this point.
Oh and kidding everybody
But seriously we have no idea why they changed it but there have been three different classes of Frigates throughout Halo so it’s possible they only changed the one, which is the Charon Class. The Paris Class ships from Reach were seen in the commissioning trailer so that could be proof of that. Possibly anyways.

Perhaps to make more distinction between the classes.
I don’t know anyway OP. I like the original and new versions, but I suppose the new one better fits the artistic direction of Halo 4.

I understand 343’s intention of changing the Dawn’s design in order to accommodate the first level of Halo 4 but drastically changing the design to such a vast extent may easily cause a lot of continuity errors within the Halo canon . I do hope Cortana explains that during Chief’s 4-years hibernation , the Dawn collided with an asteroid and it ripped off the lower Cargo bay . That’s a start

I have no issue with the simple “artistic license”. But I hate any dev’ when they fed people up with crap about nanospacemagic and other thing that were never put forward but now are just to give an explanation.
So yeah I complain about 343i lack of courage to just say “we changed it, deal with it” instead of the “well… there is nanobot and they changed chief armor, the covenant and most of the vehicle in Halo 4… Damn nanobot!”
They changed it for a new art direction and probably for gameplay reasons (First mission of halo 4).

Except its not that far-fetched for the Forward Unto Dawn to have had prototype nanobots on board. Think about it, Cortana was stuck on the Dawn alone for almost 5 years. At one point she probably noticed the nanobots in the ships inventory and used them on John’s suit to pass the time. Prevent herself from going insane from the isolation.
You can still see a little ramp under the center motor in the back side of this new design.
Trying to find the photo where I saw it as proof, but I’m 100% sure of it.

When you do find it link it here. I would like to see it.
EDIT: Legos…not what I was expecting.

Done just before you posted that
It’s the official playset made by Lego, which matches the one we saw in the E3-2011 trailer and the Avatar Prop.
But talking about the rest of the design, I also find it unnecessary…
I hope at least we can get to see the new model substituting the old one in the Chief’s Record in the beginning of the campaign so we can get an idea how it’s supposed to be canon-wise now.

Actually, those aren’t Legos . They’re Mega Bloks .
So we all know that forward unto Dawn has been dramatically re designed, I don’t mind this (although I think it looks alot worse) but we also know it is a frigate.
Now we know there are 3 types of frigate. So I assumed that because Dawn changed that the others would change too. However when I rewarcged the live action e3 trailer i saw an OLD frigate model?
Go to 00:28 secs to see it, this makes me think why has Dawn changed and the others have not, especially as we will see it for like 1 level before it gets blown up?
What do you guys think, do you think the other classes are going to be different like in the trailer or what?
And yes I know 343 changed the Dawn because it’s their halo now and that stuff, I just dont see the point in this change that’s all, I like the other changes, like chiefs armour, but I cant say I’m a fan of this change.
Thanks guys
I think it’s a shame. The frigate was a pretty cool ship. Quite unique in design. Now it’s a block?
> My theory is that they changed it to aid gameplay/mission design.
Well that’s pretty obvious by now, but if you’re a developer in that situation you should change the location of your first mission rather than drastically changing the canon to suit your insatiable desire to set yourself apart from the previous dev.

I know right . On that note I wonder what the strategic purpse of the FOTUS helmet horn is ?
Its probably like “The Maw” from CE. Where the Pillar of Autumn’s size was purposely increased for the purpose of the gameplay.
The Dawn is likely being redesigned for Artistic Liberty and gameplay reasons.
And I’d rather make my opinions of the Forward Unto Dawn in-game rather then a mega blocks set.
Personally, I think it’s was a huge mistake changing the Dawns shape and size… It messes up the cannon of Halo and destroys, like someone said, “a unique ship design” just for a dollar or two. As far as other things go, the John 117 log at the beginning of the campaign states the Pillar of Autumn was also a frigate; which is not true. It was a cruiser… that’s some shotty work 343.
