Major Concerns About Big Team Playlist Change

I like Halo 4 overall and do not have a ton of complaints. It’s not perfect but it has a lot more pros than cons and 343 has done a VERY good job of improving the game over time.

I’m not here to bring up opinion based, 50/50 battles and why ‘my way’ is the best… such as sprint, loadouts, AA’s, etc:

However, I think (and please correct me if I’m wrong) that I speak for the masses about the following:

Combining objective based big team with big team slayer is a very bad idea that is frankly a pretty big turn-off for me (for overall fun on big team, casual play on trying to work together with a friend or two and get kills / have fun).

Now, big team battle is by far the most populated game type; often by well over double at any given time. If it wasn’t then I would not make this post. That is very important information (as I understand everyone has an opinion on everything).

I also consider myself a pretty ‘typical Halo player’ and one that finds myself between the pros and casuals. I’m assuming that is a vast majority of the players in big team also share the following qualities:

  1. Like to win but not ultra competitive
  2. Plays pretty well but far from pro
  3. Plays mostly alone or with a friend here and there. Not typically in a legit ‘team’
  4. B/c not on a (real) team; enjoys slayer (team work helps but is not REQUIRED to do well)

I think objective based games belong in 4v4 for the TEAMS to play (or in its own big team playlist if the population is big enough for the game)…

I completely understand WHY the consolidating (in general) is happening. I really do. However, we’re taking the most popular mode (by over double) and adding stuff to the playlist that I feel MOST people wont enjoy.

8v8 objective based games with a bunch of randoms and no real strategy (or CARE for completing objective) present… I just feel like it’s going to kill the big team mode for a lot of people.

With all of this said… will I still play it? Of course. But I would MUCH prefer it to be slayer only. Again, I’m not stating this one random opinion just to say the game should be MY way… but I do feel like the ‘big team crowd’ will likely feel similar.

What do you guys think?

Well imo they have already ruined the btis playlist for a lot of people that enjoyed infinity settings. Simply by adding big team slayer, or pro, or whatever they choose to call it. They may as well drive some more people away from the game.

I will take a wait and see approach on this, I didn’t mind objective matches in BTB on Reach. My only concern is that we only have three choices when voting to choose from and no way of a veto system to rotate what is offered is probably the biggest downfall to this personally.

The people who will be most disappointed are the hardcore objective types who will now be swamped with casual players who either quit, afk, or will not play for the objective. But just as Infinity people have had to adapt to non-Infinity settings, so too will all of us adapt to the presence of objective. Best way of dealing: watch the vote in the lobby and if it is going to anything you don’t want to play, then back out. Some people consider this to be bad form, but I say if we’re going to have JiP then let it do its job.

A common argument against my stance is that past Halos always did big team with objective and slayer…

My reply:

Past Halos (from what I saw) had ‘team slayer’ as their most played mode. B/c big team was fixed (for most people, such as myself) H4 big team is over double team slayer (usually).

Aka now people like me that like slayer will likely have to play team slayer again (like I did in past Halos).

And this is all fine and well, but it’s just really old after leveling up pretty high in team slayer always getting killed by TEAMS (as a random playing alone or maybe with 1 friend).

That is why big team on H4 saved halo for me, it’s a bunch of people just out going for kills and having fun. Work together is a bonus, not a requirement. (And yes, I choose to work with a team to get kills together).

Let’s be honest, how competitive is objective in big team with 16 randoms (: I’m sure you all get my point by now and understand why big team is the most popular hands down these days.

I just feel this is a very bad move and many will leave from playlist and then ultimately quit (realize other playlists are more competitive and less crazy fun).

Time will tell. I sure know I’ll be playing regardless.

I don’t see it as a drama. Most the guys are still voting for Slayer anyway this just helps put the Big Team crowd into one playlist. Should really be able to hold your own in Slayer to play Big Team anyway. The objective playlists have suffered from low population for months and this just tidies things up.

Objective and Slayer mixed has been how it was for as long as I can remember, it always seemed to work out well. Besides that, the more players the better games, faster.

I agree with this, vetoing I think was a much better system.

Big Team Skirmish is basically just Big Team Slayer without a kill limit anyway. It’s pretty much the same thing.

Im pretty sure they want to just nuke all objective gametypes and focus on slayer. They already took out(did not include) many past objective gametypes and now there isn’t even a dedicated playlist.

I feel bad for the Objective players but that doesn’t mean we should get this thrown into our playlist. There is no continuity of thought for this game from week to week. I sure hope we will not be dealt the same type of game management for Halo 5.

I play BTIS which of late seems to be inundated with children playing. I hear the little squeaky voices and I immediately want to assassinate all of them. I probably shouldn’t feel that way but it is a mature rated game. I shouldn’t expect anything different I guess. Our playlist has Big Team Slayer now and I actually do like that because all the little freaks back out of the lobby when it gets voted.

I guess we’ll get shafted with playing all these variants no else wants to play anymore. Nice. Real nice.

Watching 343’s changes over the past few months, has been like watching a long monty python movie.

That’s great. Use the BTIS playlist as a dumping ground for rejected variants. We seem to get stuck playing the crap no one else wants to. What a joke!!

Sums it up nicely.

mmmm NO it is not. SMH completely different, one is slayer only the other has objective based games. It is people like you that are working for 343 that are ruining my favorite game.

Yep. I’ve carried my team through objective games with maybe a handful of kills. With Ricochet, for example, having everyone else distract the other team while you run the ball in still wins, even if your team only got 5 kills all game and the loser got two dozen.

If you enjoy Infinity settings so much go play COD. I know its beating a dead horse at this point but Infinity settings IS NOT HALO mp.

During the process of making changes to appease and bring back potential players I believe it should have been a priority to not distance any of the remaining major player base.

I liked Halo 4 out of the box. It does say “Halo” on the game cover and I did not come into this with any preconceived notion as what Halo should be.

I have played better after the weapons update, enjoyed most of the in-season map tweaks, and had adjusted well to what I felt was a frequently “vehicle heavy” game style in the BTIS/PRO play list at my CSR level.
I am also part of the JIP problem because I would back out of the lobby if PRO was being picked. In my defense, after I joined a game (including JIP) I would stay to the bitter end.

I do wonder how many BTIS players like me are left in the Halo 4 population?
Are we truly the minority?
And if we are not, are we being sacrificed at the expense of another vision?

I agree that consolidated play list #s are better for lag / connection / matching CSR.

But taking out a playlist that was well below 1,000 all the time and putting it into the biggest play list that is 7-9k is just weird…

And it would be just fine if it ‘made sense’ (flow of game play)… but we’re talking big team objective (lets be honest, 16 randoms doing CTF with zero communication?).

‘IF’ they just eliminated the list, then the 9k people would still be happy with their favorite mode. The under 1k would come over to big team OR go to the CTF / other play lists (that technically work better anyway as far as teamwork).

But the most important BAD change to the change is people backing out like the guy that posted above me. This is and will be WAY more frequent. Black screen ftw.

Hopefully everything goes smooth.

Well I hate to rain on your parade, but infinity is a h4 mp, and in fact the most popular playlist since h4 was released. If I wanted to play cod I would do so. This one eyed attitude that infinity has no place in halo 4 is just ignorant. As has been stated many times there should have been 2 separate playlists, infinity and traditional.
The fact that many people just want br/magnum starts etc, I find rather puzzling. Halo is set in the future, yet people want to use basically present day weapons. dmr br = famas etc. magnum = desert eagle etc. Maybe 343 should make a halo at the ok corral playlist. Starting weapons could be a lever action winchester and a holster mounted colt 45.
A lot of people enjoyed infinity, it has been part of h4 since release, so stop having tunnel vision. I respect the wishes of those that wish a traditional playlist. Those that want a infinity playlist should have their wishes respected too. There’s too much childish bickering on this forum.
