So I just played my first game…a custom skirmish death match with my brother. We are both AVID Halo Wars fans. The match lasted about 3 hours…until I finally quit because of a MAJOR game flaw. I played as Forge. He played as Decimus. It started out fun, then I took a full army against his invisible bases, and after about 30 minutes I destroyed one. Then on the second invisible base, I realized ACTIVE CAMO BASES CANNOT BE DESTROYED OR EVEN DAMAGED. How the -Yoink- are you supposed to kill an invisible base. You can Y attack the crap out of it forever and it will remain full health and you won’t even know it. Then he made two scarabs active camo and THEY COULD NOT BE DESTROYED. Even my fully upgraded carpet bomb and Y attacks from a variety of units from Grizzlies to Marines, to the specialized warthog to the artillery vehicles that don’t do anything except sit and ignore your orders… I would build infinite units, he would build infinite units. I CLEARLY had map control, yet you can’t kill anything that’s camo’d. So the only possible way I can figure out how to see anything cloaked (and thus be able to even harm it) is with the NIghtingale. I’ve read almost the WHOLE prima guide for an explanation to this issue to no avail. The game is simply BROKEN and I will NEVER play it again if the cloak continues to be so overpowered. What a -Yoinking!- stupid idea to have in the game anyways. Please tell me if I am missing something. Is there ANY way to defeat cloaked units or bases other than having a Nightingale just sitting nearby???
So I quit and called it a stalemate and he thinks he won. Very frustrating. It was clearly never going to end.
I just started a 1v1in blitz he had stealth troops at start no way to counter that and he just sent to kill my scorpion and took map control and all energy bc I couldn’t hit his troops that’s BS.

That’s why you have anti stealth units, those cloaked units are anti infantry so it’d have to take half an hour to kill the scorpion so it’s your fault for that. And they run out of cloak after 120 seconds.
For op, use detection units, it’s not hard.
You can detect cloaked bases with a sniper and then kill it with whatever. The sniper just has to be in the vicinity.

Not like I get to choose what I start with… you get a very limited amount of energy to start so unless I just sit back and wait until they unstealth which they would get all the energy and still get an advantage it’s not worth it. Btw it took about 30 seconds to kill my scorpion maybe less.

I’ve just come from a 1v1 Deathmatch and came up across Camo, I’m admittedly new to Halo Wars 2 but know my way around most RTS games.
I had 4-1 Base advantage, full cap of a mixed army which has already wiped his army numerous times but was destroyed by his cloaked base several times, eventually I had to google how to bet cloaking and found I need anti-cloaking units, from what I can see my only option was Snipers or wolverines, so I threw a few in my army and no no matter how much i moved them around to survive they where killed, causing me to have to retreat numerous times and keep trying, eventually i simply resigned.
My conclusion is that i need to waste 20-30 pop just to simply see all of his base/units which means I’m already at a disadvantage s it forces me to use a specific unit, even then I need to completely focus on them units to ensure they survive and hope my units attack the correct counters, which will not happen.
Please tell me I’ve overreacted here and I’m missing something blatantly obvious, otherwise it’s completely game breaking.

Should always immediately look over to the enemies base and see what they have and where they are going, if it’s marauders immediately spawn detection if you have it (you start with 50 energy, the primary detectors are 40 and 60). Given that all the detection units are good on their own you should really have two in your deck, which generally makes it easy to get one out.
But even without it, there are two marauders and you can see where they are going. You don’t have to hide in base, just go where they aren’t until you get detection up or it runs out. One split off marauder isn’t stopping a scout from picking up energy.
Cloak/detect is a perfectly fine mechanic and it works very similarly in Starcraft 2 with no issues. I haven’t encountered people doing it en masse in normal MP yet, and though being frustrated with it before even understanding the mechanic is silly I do suspect it might be an actual problem because the dtection range on units is pretty small. If it ends up as an issue expanding that range should be a good fix.
110% agree. I just resigned for the same issue. It’s ridiculous.
is it really hard to have a detect unit in your build. It does not matter what building you are using. Wolverines and snipers also uncloak units. It’s really not that hard and yeah he basically did win because you were not smart enough to read the in game description to see the words detects cloaked units.
unsc need of cyclops wiyth detect insible
This guy sums the problems up nicely - I was also a halo wars player of the first game and its actually better then the 2nd.

Okay, here is the basic problem with the units in Halo Wars 2 compared to the first Halo Wars (this is primarily multiplayer, campaign and Blitz seems balanced enough). The entire rock, paper scissors dynamic that the first one promoted and integrated into all their units is almost entirely gone.
- Anti-infantry units are almost non-existent and the ones that are there, like the flamethrowers get destroyed before they even get close to their target. The sniper is pretty expensive and impractical for a lot of situations. - Anti-vehicle units like the hunters seem really good against everything. They are supposed to be backed off from normal or anti-infantry units and used against vehicles. Instead they can be thrown into any battle. - The units in general feel a lot weaker than they did in the first game, hornets get shot down like nothing, scorpions can barely kill anything before half their health is wiped out and scout units really only serve the purpose of being sacrifices for revealing cloaked enemies, at least the warthogs in the first one could so some damage. The jackrabbits could be made of paper for what it seems like. - The cost and health of the uber units are completely ridiculous. They are too cheap and get built too fast, they hardly do the damage you would expect. Especially the scarab which targets one thing at a time and slowly chips away at it’s health. Once uber units are out on the field, the game just becomes Uber vs Uber units plus engineers or nightingales until people have just had enough and quit. - With the uber units, showing them with a special symbol on the map is a terrible decision, it completely removes the element of surprise and lets the enemy know that they should start building their uber unit. Which because it builds so fast, is ready by the time your Uber gets to a base, so it’s pointless. - The unit upgrading system is very watered down and the upgrades feel like they do nothing. The first one provided legit combat differences to the units when upgraded. Think of when the hunter got it’s beam attachment, or when the warthogs got the Gauss canon, it was a game changer. Now, when upgraded, it feels like they attack the same with no added benefit. - Why do you show the supply drops, power and portals on the map? The first one required you to discover these things as they could randomly change in matches. Adding another meta game of taking your enemies supplies before they could. There is so many supplies on the map and you can see exactly where it is. Not that it matters, after 10 minutes the supply/power production is ridiculously high that you never need to scout and gather. - This is the worst part by far, and if you only had the capacity to fix one thing about the game, this would be it. The leader powers are so incredibly unbalanced, it’s a shock that it made it past QA. The passive powers appear to have no impact at all, the glassing beam is so overpowered that it can essentially wipe out entire armies and require you not to even fight. The archer missiles are very weak. And only some leaders can heal? The first one had a simple set of powers and in this case, less is more. The powers are meant to assist and buy some time, not become a replacement for smart unit building, which it has. The strategy and higher play skill that used to exist is far removed because of the power imbalance. Any player, new or veteran can just focus on spamming powers and playing ubers instead of thinking about their units. In general, the thing that made the first Halo Wars so good was the simplicity and distinction between units. Everything felt unique and had a purpose on the battlefield. HW2’s units feel like you should just make whatever you can, throw it out there and hope for the best.
I use both wolverines and nightingale people are just ignorant on here to think I can control it and I stated he didn’t go after the energy he went for my troops, I also just realized you can’t detect with a reaver that you start with…
I feel that the range that the stealth unit can see the cloaked base needs to be increased a little. The Sniper needs to be able to see cloaked units from a bigger distance as it is a long range unit. A Sniper should never need to be within spitting distance of and enemy base or unit.
Having more units being able to detected cloaked units will defeat the purpose of cloaking your base/units.
That awkward moment when you lose as Forge.
Same exact thing happened to me. I was obviously going to win and this troll just sat there with a cloaked base and 2 cloaked scarabs. I had 5 snipers all spread out so they could detect that they were cloaked and when they were, I spammed Y using 14 tanks and it didn’t affect its health whatsoever. It was impossible to defeat the enemy army since his scarabs were invincible. Since there were so many units spawned, my game eventually crashed and it was counted as a loss and my rank went down. It was total BS! This kind of stuff never happened in HW1 and it shouldn’t happen in HW2!

You can glass beam the base.

A cloaked base with a shield and the Scarabs Y ability will make your leader power either be useless or just lower the shields on the base before doing any damage

u know this is an old post right
