Major audio issues

I’ve noticed that there is no audio for anything happening behind the player in this game, you cannot hear enemies running up behind you, or even gunfire if you start getting shot in the back. When an enemy starts shooting you from behind you cannot hear anything to alert you to this, your shields rapidly drop and there is no audio from the gun behind you or even a noise from your shields dropping, same thing with grenades, if they land behind you there is no noise from them, it’s as if you can only hear something when it’s in your field of view, as soon as it leaves your vision it no longer makes any noise.

100% agree with you. This has to be a bug right? I feel like all gunfire from enemy’s is just very quiet and if its behind you its nonexistent.

i even tried messing with the dynamic audio setting switching between compressed and full range, it makes no difference.

I’m guessing you’re using headphones? I can say for certain this isn’t an issue in Dolby Atmos with speakers. The true surround mix is one of the best I’ve heard.

But gunfire does sound fairly quiet when you aren’t getting shot at by them. 343 should give us a slider in the audio options to adjust the sounds of enemies who aren’t shooting at you.

maybe, I’ll have to do some experimenting with my headset settings

its not you. plenty of people are having the issue. The Dolby speakers this is bs.

I’m on headphones and the directional audio is egregiously bad. Sounds to my right and left are barely audible and I can not hear any sound effects behind me. You need to have some kind of audio que let you know you’re being shot from behind.

Exactly the same thing happening to me. Using headphones actually excentuates the lack of sound. Using speakers somewhat helps but yeah, it’s really bad. I think their directional audio features need to be worked on heavily because even surround sound doesn’t help either. Seems like the game isn’t sending audio or loud enough audio to the drivers. There’s also no setting to change from stereo to speakers or anything else. Hoping this gets fixed by the time big team battles is in the beta.

You can definitely hear what’s going on behind you with surround speakers. The audio mix is set up to have non-threatening sounds become even more quiet when they’re coming from behind you. I’m pretty sure this is an issue with their new audio system they mentioned in March. They should boost non-threatening sounds coming from the rear, and give us a slider in the audio options to adjust how loud non-threatening sounds are in general. Some people may like how it is now because it helps them identify immediate threats quickly, but I would like to make other sounds it a touch louder than they are now, so I’m more aware of what’s going on around the map.

i think being shot in the back is a pretty immediate threat lol, if something is actively damaging me i should be able to hear it over my own footsteps

I’m getting a similar issue, but for me I’ve narrowed it down to that it is playing Windows Sonic instead of Dolby Atmos.
Sounds behind me sound fine… as far as windows sonic goes. But it should be playing Dolby Atmos, which is what is selected in Windows settings.

I’m using an Astro A40 (Halo 5 gen 2 Edition) with an EPOS GSX 300 as an external sound card.

I did at one point at the end of a long session have Dolby Atmos suddenly working, and I could tell a phenomenal difference.
So there is a way to get it working, but will take a lot of fiddling to get that happening again, if it even works again.

Update: Got mine fixed! Might have been an external sound card (EPOS GSX 300) issue.
Either way was instructed by their tech support to update windows (this might be the deciding factor/fix for other non-EPOS people), uninstall EPOS gaming suite, and permanently delete all program files for it (including in C:/ProgramData folder), then reinstall EPOS gaming suite, then re-plug in my sound card.

Worked like a charm! Now a very happy surround sound man.

I am having this issue on Logitech Pro X Wired Headset…
I only realize now after seeing this thread, man I am such a noob for not noticing this

Also having the same problem with the Logitech G533, i did try to unplug my headphones and use my external speakers and the sound was good, but as soon as i went back to my headset the sound was all broken again. I would also like to mention that i tried disabling the 7.1 from the logitech hub app and that also didnt fixed the issue.

I also have this issue. I am unsure if it to do with Logitech’s in line DAC, since mine has one. I reported this issue from the first flight preview and again for this flight. Both times 343 has said that there is no fix/troubleshooting options to fix this unfortunately.

Yeah I’m having the same issue using Logitech G Pro wireless…
