Majestic Map Pack should be FREE. Here's Why.

We know it, and now we know that 343i knows it (see newest Bulletin). This game should not have been released in the state that it was. Every Halo has had its issues upon release but this time around there are just SO many that I really do believe 343i ought to give us the next map pack for free.

As it stands right now, people who enjoy small/medium maps are given the short end of the stick. The selection is just not there. 343i have stated that the Majestic map pack will feature small/medium maps. Making the pack free would solve this issue.

Another reason why I feel the pack should be free is because of the simple fact that I want to actually be able to play the new smaller maps. As we seen with Reach/Crimson map packs, hardly anyone buys them, leaving those who did out in the dust - forced to only play the DLC playlist (which currently has around 350 people in it on a regular basis -_-)

343,if you really do want to win back your fans, and clear part of your apparently ruined reputation, you will consider making the next map pack free.

One last thing - no I am not trying to be cheap here - I will buy the pack regardless as I really am sick of the current selection. I truly believe this would be a great way for 343i to apologize to their fans.

EDIT: Its been brought to my attention that this would “kick the pass buyers in the nads”. At the very least then, release another free map (like Cold Storage) or something along those lines.

Sorry, H4 is good enough for this

I also believe you missed the part where Forge maps have their own playlist coming and could help fill in that niche of maps you feel should be free.
… But on that, since DLC is part of the the online experience and has been for almost 10 years, and 10 years ago it was the old pack going free with the release of the new pack, why should the new pack be free again?
The short end of the stick is not for those that choose not to use Forge or purchase the DLC, it’s purchasable for all.

No 343 will NEVER make map packs free. Too many people bought the map pack pass to get burned. While I do like the notion from original Xbox of after 3 months, map packs become free, it’s not possibile to do with current Microsoft regulations which specify you have to charge points for all DLC.

I like that you are trying to get stuff for free but seriously, save us all a favour and support the game by geting the DLC. I consider true fans to support their franchise of choice.

This would be a kick in the nads for Limited Edition/Map Pass users. It would be cool if they released a free map after they get through Majestic and Castle, kinda like with Halo 3’s Cold Storage.

You said people who enjoy smaller/medium maps aren’t getting the short end of the stick…

You sure?

Because last time I checked if I wanted to play big maps I have a playlist with a whole slew of maps designed for large games. There are less smaller maps in this game than large ones. You can say “use forge/customs” but why should I have to? I’d (and every other person I’m sure) prefer a new “real” map over a forged one.

You said that with the release of the new DLC packs, the old one becomes free, so therefore this next one shouldn’t be free right away. How is this a valid argument? Making them free from the get-go is still better than having to wait a few months. I’m saying that 343, in my opinion, should give the pack to the fans because they even admitted to messing up.

And also, this is a thread about the map pack, not matchmaking. IMO it belongs in the main forum. But you’re the big man.

I do agree, I did like the old school way of the map packs becoming free after the new map pack came out, same as how the monitor mentioned. Unfortunately those days are all gone, however, should return, as that is a good way to bring some older or 2 year old games back from the dead. As it is, no map packs or DLC is free at all, no matter if the game has been out for three years or what not, and has had 1 or 2 more games be released after it.

But back to the point at hand, DLC is going to cost money and it should. The developers have worked hard on the new maps and everything that was put into them, and that work shouldn’t go unpaid. And honestly if anyone thinks the maps on any DLC were complete and finished before the game was released then you must be dreaming. But that’s just my thought on it, and not to mention I purchased the LE of Halo 4, and if everyone gets it free, then whats the point of having a LE?

After all the game is still playable without the DLC, and if someone feels that it isn’t then purchase the DLC and you will be complete. Nothing is free in life.

Season pass and all that aside, it’s more like MS dont want free DLC. Valve has all their DLC free for their games on PC, but when it comes to Xbox MS wont allow them to give it away for free.

Your disappointment (and mine) with 343 doesn’t mean you can demand free DLC that takes manpower and resources to accomplish. My biggest problem is less with the game and more with the developer. If they hold true to the newest bulletin, then those two biggest issues are dealt with (playlists and updates).

Sorry I disagree with the Monitor. Halo 4 is nowhere near good enough.
Its a broken release.

There are no excuses for having broken file share, bad matchmaking set up, restrictive forge and customs settings, terrible maps, missing playlists and a completely unbalanced game.

Not to mention the fact that 343 continually disrespect the community either by ignoring them outright or through a series of embarrassing mistakes such as the the specialisations or “14 day free DLC trial”. Instead of apologising they tend to just lie or ignore us.

Rotational playlists dont work, they just leave people frustrated that they cant play what they want and most of the updates that are coming dont deserve a pat on the back. These things should have been present when we bought the game.

They took our money and give us a shoddy half finished product and I dont think its unreasonable for the fans to expect something back, without having to pay. We have already paid and we were ripped off. Its up to 343 to make it up to us not for us to keep throwing money at them to fix their mistakes.

Totally disagree with the OP on this

343i admitting that mistakes were made is not a pathway to getting extra content, at no charge.

This is their first full game, and their first HALO game, and as long as they learn from their mistakes regarding communication with the community, failed and poorly planned and executed promotions, and the issues with the MP and dont repeat them going forward, thats good enough for me

Using their admission to justify a self entitled demand to get DLC for free is just that…self entitled

Do you know when 343 will be choosing community cartographers?

Halo 2 had alot more issues when it was released, it was not even finished, and for you to demand free DLC is complete garbage and shows you are just greedy.

People worked hard and long hours to create the DLC we get and other things that are to be implemented, get over yourself, you dont deserve such a hand out.

I don’t want any of the map packs that 343 made (or outsourced production of).

AFTER they get this game fixed to the point it should have been for launch they can think about doing something BIG to try and get people playing it again, since it is now #3 below minecraft in the xbox live ratings (probably out of the top 5 by the time the game is fixed).

I’d say port every old favorite map from past halo games, polish them up graphically and make them available for free. Make a big PR deal of it and get people playing H4 again.

Right there you just pointed out what is wrong with gaming today - self-entitlement. That is absolutely no justification for you receiving a map pack for free - especially when a lot of us have already paid for the same product. You are just looking for an excuse to get something for nothing. Pathetic!

Is it really that hard to buy the DLC instead of demanding it for free? It really isn’t that expensive and if you’re sick of the current map selection, fix your problem or shut up. I get there’s a ton of frustration around this issue but the best “sorry” you are going to get from 343 regarding the map pack is another trial, which was never planned in the first place

It’s impossible to literally “copy/paste” maps. They have to remake them from the ground up, which is why most remakes (see: Blackout vs Lockout) are never REALLY the same maps. You honestly don’t think they would have done that in the past if it were that easy?

I swear, people complain just to complain because they almost never know what they are talking about. I’m frustrated too but I don’t talk out of my *** when I want to say something about it

If they did that… you would have another Crimson issue… so yeah bad idea.

I think all DLC should be free.

It extends the life of the game and maintains its appeal as it ages. “Oh, this game shipped with only 10 multiplayer maps, but now it has 19? Maybe I should buy it now.” This means the demand stays higher longer, the price of the game stays higher longer, and they make more money off of game sales over the life of the game.

But, I also think $60 for a game for the level of enjoyment we get out of games these days is a steal…

Free? Yeah, no.

They should do what they did during the map pack coverup and let us try the maps for free for a few days.
Except, you know, intentionally this time. And without blatant lying.

They sell DLC’s to make up for ppl who sell/buy used games… granted some games that sell there DLC’s for a ridiculous price like Halo was 10$ where as most/all of COD is 15$, BF3 had a couple around there but at least you can use rides on some of there maps.
