I really hope we get to see a return of a classic halo main menu like H2 or H3.
These main menus was brilliant.
Yeah, I have always loved those, but I wouldn’t be upset if they made the menu’s look like this concept idea. Halo Infinite Main Menu Concept - YouTube

Agreed, the classics were nice but the concept menu doesn’t look too shabby either imo. Super clean

Keep that menu and have the camera pan around a little like H3 and itll be perfect

I don’t care for the MCC UI, but I rather like Halo 5’s. I hope they keep this new updated style and just keep trying to make adjustments.
I hope it’s nature inspired rather than seeing a ship in the dark, dark space. The floating grunt was a nice touch though lol
I have to agree that I prefer the UI design in classic Bungie Halo games. To be more precise, having a simple text only list with a relatively small simple font and short line spacing with only a subtle highlight on the selected item on the left-hand side, with additional info being displayed on the right-hand side is the best approach to almost all menus. This is in contrast to the massive picture tiles used in some menus since Halo 4, as well text only lists having very well-defined boundaries (Halo 4 and 5) and ample line-spacing (Halo 4, MCC, and 5). I think that kind of embellishment is unnecessary, is less likely to produce the desired result (an attractive menu), and is not helpfui to the fundamental goal of the menu, which is transporting the player from one area of the game to another (or as in the case of the Halo 4 tiles, is actively detrimental to that goal). The same goes for all the additional boxes and lines 343i’s menus throw at you. Usually in games, the only thing that needs framing is pictures. Explicit vertical lines are almost always unnecessary.
Something to be said about picture tiles is that they can be useful, but only in very limited circumstances. Unless the player needs to see all the associated pictures at once, tiles are a waste of space. For instance, the horizontally scrolling tiles MCC uses in its options menu should be a vertical text list. However, representing a list of armor pieces or emblembs as a grid of images might be helpful to the player who probably hasn’t memorized all of their names.
Empty space is also okay, if not preferable to have in the menu. If there is no need to fill the whole screen with items and information, then only a part of the screen which fits all the relevant information suffices. MCC doesn’t need to show me a pack of cards of the level images when I’m choosing which campaign I want to play. There is nothing I do with that information (and nothing I could do even if I wanted, since only the topmost image is shown fully), and the game will have plenty of time to show me its beautiful art when I’m selecting a level.
I think 343i’s UI design has come a long way since Halo 4, but Halo 5 and MCC are still both behind what Bungie had accomplished by Halo 3, and definitely Halo Reach which by a significant margin has the best UI I have seen in a Halo game.
Also, horizontal scrolling on anything that is not intended to go on a touch screen is pointless and unpleasant.
UI responsiveness is something Iike. I find MCC’s menus to be a bit slow, or maybe I’ve become more impatient. Reach and 4 have the smoothest transitions when going from one screen to another.
Personally we should just go back to halo 3 its setup was so simple. Campaign, multiplayer, forge, theater, and firefight if its included with infinite and maybe warzone.
We should go back to halo 3 and reach’ main menu, Halo 5’s one sucked. Even the beta of halo 5’s menu was good.
