Magnums, the most underrated starting weapon

Wouldn’t you agree? It’s absolutely fantastic in a close-mid range fight, is functional at all ranges (it’s stupid to try to outshoot a DMR or something long range, but it’s not useless at it like many other guns are) It’s stylish, fun, and takes skill and tact to use properly.

Not to mention it’s just -Yoink!- as hell.

Look at that mother fudger:

Halo 4 Magnum

I know what you’re thinking…why would I use a Magnum when I can use a Boltshot? Well the most logical response would be I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking. Boltshots are boring and you suck. The most refined response would be that Magnums are more tactically useful and combo well with any primary weapon (since it can be used in place of a primary weapon at any time because it’s so super special awesome.).

Also the STC skin looks like ice frosting the metal of this, the most manly of weapons. This is because you’re one cold mother trucker when you mow people down with the Magnum. Does your puny DMR beat a magnum at close range? Heck no. Does your puny Boltshot beat a magnum at mid-long range? Sometimes, because the boltshot has some random -Yoink- range, but usually it leaves you eating a nice mouthful of dirt and shame.

So use the magnum gentlemen. It’s pretty darn legit.

I like it, when you and another person melee each other, just headshot them with the magnum.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

Agreed. Most people seriously underrate the Magnum. Great all purpose, clean up sidearm that can win you some bouts against even the big boys occasionally with a little maneuvering and good shooting.

I think it’s great but sometimes it’s better to have a boltshot.

Its pretty crazy effective close range. Harder for me to use close range than a long range weapon though, oddly.

I use it with my automatics all the time but I still think it could have been different.

It has the bloom problem that the Reach magnum and DMR had. That bloom makes it really random for me. Sometimes, I can 6 shot kill someone at mid range, sometimes they take 8 bullets and don’t even drop shields.

I think the whole bloom mechanic is just terrible. If 343 wanted to restrict the range of this weapon, they should have just made the reticule larger (like the Halo CE pistol) and reduce the aim assist to practically 0 outside of its range.

My complaint with this weapon has to do with my complaint with all weapons: too much aim assist and auto aim.

Until that aspect is fixed, I don’t have much to say about this gun. It is random and underused. Thats all.

Plasma pistol makes it obsolete because vehicles shouldn’t be capable of moving 10 feet before being destroyed according to 343.

My main loadout consists of the MA5D Assault Rifle and the M6H Magnum. Killer close range and reasonable long range backup courtesy of the Magnum. It’s not a DMR, but it gets the job done in most cases.

My main loadout is a BR and a Magnum but I like your style.

I thought this thread would be about how to properly use a magnum and make it a worthwhile secondary, not why it’s your favorite trophy to display on the mantle.

“The magnum is great, great, great, great. Use the magnum!”

My question still remains why?

My plasma pistol can drop your overshield in an instant. It can stop a scorpion dead in its tracks, it can drop a banshee from the sky, it can disable shield-doors in one blast, it can even disable turrets.

The plasma pistol is indeed the most versatile secondary weapon and the skin for it looks fashionable and trendy.

Good luck fending off a skilled wraith operator with your magnum.

I’d love to be able to use the magnum more.

Good luck shooting someone to death in six shots quicker than any other starting weapon with your plasma pistol.

Use the wheelman and Pathfinder mods. The PP simply prevents vehicles from being OP like they were in Reach. Play smart, and you can still go on killing sprees with them.

Don’t be a noob, play smart and use teamwork.

Edit: forgot to give my position on the topic, the magnum is very underrated. I did a thread about people’s preferred sidearm and the results were: Magnum 17, Plasma Pistol 17, and Boltshot 33.
I was very disappointed as I had been supporting the Magnum :frowning:

But that’s people’s opinion!

Wheelman doesn’t help, I have it. Spawning with PP is just too powerful.

You must be missing, because that’s not possible. Five shots of the magnum drop shields, no matter where on the spartan they hit.

> Spawning with PP is just too powerful.

Hardly. You want vehicles to be OP as hell then by all means remove the PP. A counter needs to exist though for game balance. Vehicles even with PP spawns still dominate Big Team Battle.

Yes, it’s actually a balanced secondary, unlike the boltshot.

I keep my primary weapons stocked and reloaded, my secondary weapon is for supporting the primary, not replacing it.

Anyway, I’m too busy hijacking your ghosts to deal with such trifles.

Its a solid starting weapon but when you compare it to Boltshot which breaks 4v4 and the PP which destroys vehicle play than it just doesnt measure up.
