Magnum. Pocket DMR (OP) or Balanced

I’ve played enough games to determine an opinion on this Magnum, I’ve got to say this weapon has range and almost makes the AR useless I’ve even heard in close range encounters if you land all shots -5- you can win against an AR with all of its shots on point. Not only this but im sure the rest of you have noticed running into 2 players with the Magnum out is an instant death sentence it’s starting to enrage me especially when i have the BR or DMR and this starting weapon is putting me down to 1 shot for another player to swoop me up as i try to get my shields back. This is my experience i’d love to hear yours.
PS. Lower the clip to 8 rounds. 12 Rounds is OP when the AR can finish a spartan in 1 clip why use it.

AR has bullet spread, thus at closer/mid range is more effective, than if you were trying to use it all the way across the map.

but i do see your point, essentially an entire team could use the pistol instead and do substancially better that the opposition.

i even find myself auto pressing Y every respawn because i prefer the pistol and it allows me to shoot players at longer ranges, but if i run into a cooridor or closed range room i’ll pull my AR out for safety. this is just my experience

no i don’t assume your an idiot and after reviewing your “PS” at the bottom i actually say that wouldnt be a bad idea. less rounds would mean less potential headshots…

The Pistol takes clearly more skill to use. Therefore you should get rewarded for using it.

Thanks and I agree no starting weapon should potentially have the ability to get 2 kills in 1 clip that’s madness

I love the Magnum in this game. IMO every weapon is pretty well developed and has it’s own uses. If you played Halo 1, the pistol in it was even more dangerous… A 3 shot kill, except it wasn’t near as precise with the aim. Taking it to a 10 shot mag wouldn’t break the game, but I don’t see a need for it.

Also… If you have any weapon and run into two people, no matter what those two people have, they should kill you.

All weapons in halo take skill to use this doesn’t give the pass for the pistol to have 12 rounds and only 5 of them needed to kill especially for a starting weapon i would just prefer a BR start.
Just my opinion

Yes, but not all of them take the same amount of skill to use.

What is the problem with killing 2 people with 1 mag? You can do the same in every Halo. CE Pistol H2/H3/H4 BR, HReach/H4 DMR.
If you are good with a precision weapon you should get rewarded for it.

And why would you want BR starts then where you can kill 3 people with one mag? How does that make sense?

That is why i look at what MLG does with its gametypes to determine the best starting weapon each game. they usually pick the standard (not power) weapon that takes the highest skill to wield.

too bad MLG isnt doing Halo 5 like they did halo 2 3 and reach… its HWC now pssh

The pistol is just right
it’s perfectly balanced within the sandbox
strong enough to defend from long range weapons off spawn and strong enough to defend against the more powerful autos but not strong enough that you don’t pick up a BR or DMR or even a carbine as you go past it
The one thing 343 got right was weapon balance

As a magnum in a realistic view: yes, 100% op. But in terms of gameplay and how it works with the other weapons: no.

Technically in a realistic view a pistol is a 1SK

Balanced because of damage falloff and inaccuracy at range.
