Made a BTB Forge Map

Just to break up all the negativity and -Yoink- in the community right now. I made a BTB Forge map. Simply put. Tested it with a full lobby and they all said it was amazing. So time to actually put it to the test. I was inspired by Narrows (from halo 3 if you didn’t know). And I kinda wanted to extend that type of gameplay with lots of verticality and incorporating man cannons into the gameplay as well as aerial combat and bringing back the use of Turrets in multiplayer. (Specifically Anti air turrets). So some details about the map.

The following weapons and vehicles can be found on the map:
Standard/Medium Weapons:
2 BR’s and DMR’s on the map 1 of each spawns in Red/Blue base.
2 Carbines in the lower catwalk.
2 Suppressors at the Catwalk Man cannons.
2 Boltshots under the glass hallway.
2 Needlers By red/blue windows on the middle level.
2 Lightrifles by middle level staircase.
2 SMG’s by red/blue zigzag.
2 Shotguns in Red/Blue base Flag Defense
2 Hydras by Turret Forts.
4 Frag 'nades. 2 by Red Pillar 2 by Blue Pillar
4 Plasma 'nades. All 4 located on Ice Platform. (Middle level)
10 Scatter 'nades. 1 in each Blue/Red base window. 2 on Red Catwalk Corner, 2 on Blue Catwalk Corner. 1 on Red Ice Steps, 1 on Blue Ice Steps.

Power Weapons:
1 Sniper on Bottom Ice Hallway
1 Sniper on Top Ice Summit (above ice steps)
1 Spartan Laser on Main Ice hall (Serious lac of these in recent maps)
1 SPNKr Rocket Launcher on Middle Ice Hall (in between plasma nade spawns)

Vehicles:
1 Covenant Anti-Air Turret on top of Red Turret Fort
1 Covenant Anti-Air Turret on top of Blue Turret Fort
2 Banshees on Red Base Platforms.
2 Banshees on Blue Base Platforms.

Mancannons:
2 each on Red/Blue base (1 towards middle Lightrifle, 1 Towards Turret Fort)
1 each on Red/Blue Vending Platform (each one takes you back to Red/Blue base)
1 each on Red/Blue Lower Catwalk (Where the Suppressors are located)

I’m pretty sure I covered everything. The map is divided into 3 different areas which are only accessible by Mancannons or Banshees. 2 of these areas are large defendable bases intended for not only Slayer but in future (once I remove some items to add in) CTF, Oddball and Strongholds. As you can see there are a lack of powerups. Yes I made the map with the intention of good old Weapon vs Weapon awesomeness. No Active camo or Overshield to give any team a particular advantage over the other. The entire Map is Symmetrical so everything should be balanced. (I honestly probably forgot to mention a nade spawn area but you guys will find out anyway). I also placed 4 banshees on the map. Yes 4 banshees. What? I had to compensate for lack of ground vehicles as this is a mix of…well Slayer and Big Team. So tight corridor, vertical action surrounded by chaotic dog fights with AA turrets and Splasers and Rockets and blaaaaaaargh. Tip for banshee users, don’t fly too low. I made the map with narrows in mind so don’t try anything funny. Escaping won’t work out too well for you.

That’s the name of the map if you didn’t get it. Narrows/Broadens. yes hahaha I know it’s not very funny. Anyway. Go to my profile and bookmark it. I hope you guys all like it. I spent about 2 weeks on it. And it is my first ever proper slayer/objective intended map. So criticism is always welcome.

Awesome. Servers should be up though.

I just ran around it. Looks like it could be pretty insane with 4 Banshees flying around at one time. You did well with the structures and balance. My only possible constructive criticism (Keep in mind it was just me running around it) was that I had a feeling folks could get frustrated with the lower levels by falling off the map if you have a fire battle going on. But in all looks pretty sweet. Cool Idea. I wish 343 had better Ice/Snow textures on their chunks, it would make your map look way better but that’s on the, nothing you can do about it. Forge is pretty cool, I love downloading other folk’s creations.

Tested it this weekend.
Two things i would tweek a bit.

  1. The turrents (anti air) are blocked towards the middle of the map by a wall. A banshee has no problems “sneaking up” and blasting an enemy out of his seat. So either lower the wall or set the turrets on an extra block so they can shoot over the wall.
  2. The catwalks on the lowest level could need some cover. you are really exposed down there and while this is fun because you have a great line of sight, i feel there is not enough reward (power weapons) down there to reward the risk of being sniped. (maybe move one of the power weapons from ice hall down there to place on each of the two catwalks (mirrored)
    Just my personnel opinion, maybe others see it differently. Hope this helps.

Awesome thanks for the feedback. The AA turrets were definitely my biggest concern. I’ll definitely tweek that once I get the chance.

The catwalk area actually used to have cover on the corner bits in an earlier version. After some testing with a full lobby. Not many people actually got into firefights down there (afraid of banshees). I actually capped my budget so I decided to remove the cover basically so I could add some more aesthetic things. Did you test with a full lobby? I’ve only had maybe 3 tests with full lobbies and what I said earlier happened all 3 times. But that is only 3 times. And i’d like to know the gameplay results on your test.
