I was thinking of this the other day and thought it might be a good idea, what if 343i input a new gametype to Halo 5 which will be mainly used to create many films that can be believable. It’s quite out there and I doubt it will be made, but it’s just an idea.
To put it into more detail, here’s how it goes…
Many options are in this gametype which can offer lots of variety in all films that will be made, these options can include:
-
The selection of species
-
Basic Forge tool to input weapons and vehicles
-
The ability to script events such as a group of banshees flying past etc… (This is so we don’t need five trillion friends to film a simple machinima)
-
Four types of weapon positions, it’s hard to explain but I’ll give some examples to help me:
-
Aimed and Ready
-
Standard Lowered
-
Fully Lowered (Just imagine the spartan standing)
-
Rested on Shoulder (At approximately 1:00, where the gun is rested on his shoulder)
These could be operated with the the D-Pad
With all these great ideas for just one gametype, we would obviously need the right theater mode to record it all, and we definitely can not use Halo 4’s theater mode as a base.
What I was thinking for this new theater mode is to just add a couple new features such as:
-
4 Player Involvement
-
4 types of zoom
-
The ability to go into first person of another player
-
5 types of Camera Modes:
-
First Person Cam
-
Third Person Cam
-
Free Cam
-
Attached Cam: Basically just a camera that you can attach to anything and it will remain on that spot, e.g on the side of a warthog etc…
-
Tripod: A placed camera position that follows the person of object of interest.
-
The ability to cut while recording
-
The ability to record in slow motion and fast
Thanks for reading, if you did, and please post down below what you think of these ideas whether if they are good or not, also please add some of your ideas as well…
Nah, too complicated for a standard Halo game if you ask me. I’d much rather 343i made a spinoff game dedicated to us making out own actual cutscenes with the current game engine and we could upload our work to our fileshare/Youtube.

And making a totally new game separate isn’t
Forge can be used highly in depth so why not theatre mode

I mean that it would be too complicated with all the expectations and hopes fans have for stuff they want to be in Halo 5. I would rather 343i give us a highly developed campaign, firefight, custom game, forge, and multiplayer before they gave us a highly developed theatre, but that’s just me.
Meh, while it would be nice as any set of additional options would what I think Halo needs to get away from is catering to very, very specialized niches within it’s own community. In the past what’s been good for machinima (ie. the theater) has been good for the overall community as well (ie. through the theater) but that doesn’t mean that more effort will continue to pay off.
While past interests have focused around having some pretty general features (ie. a camera) what you’re asking for is stuff that’s specifically tied to machinima. There’s no potential application for players and considering that even machinima viewership is a minority within the Halo community(average hits versus games sold) the number of creators who’ll benefit from this is painfully small. This might have still been enough to justify green wall pieces, but anything more than that is ultimately a loss for the community because the effort of creating a theater gametype could easily go into something else that would benefit more than just a tiny fragment of a population (ex. new BTB gametypes).
