I honestly feel that machinima is dying with Halo 5. No forge at launch and the already repetitive gameplay will and already have driven people away. Machinamtors are already saying they will stick to reach (Yet again) due to Halo 5 already being inconvenient for machinima with the theater not only not including new features, but core ones missing as well like timeline, record, and the frustrating to use zoom. Also the lack of third person weapon lowering and the playback being messed up. 343 clearly didn’t look at what community creations like machinima did for Halo. That’s why reach and 3 lasted way longer than any 343 game will. Honestly I think it’s 343s fault for going into this focused esports meta that completely blinded them from the real halo community
No they did not do the wrong thing the only thing people have been -Yoinking!- about on the halo forums since 4 is that reach and 4 where not a competitive game like old halos with no rank no equal starts so 343 did what they feel is the right direction for the community…
And I applaud them for it surprisingly the machinima crowd is much smaller then the competitive crowd who the -Yoink- still cares about machinima??

Reach had equal starts
343 only cared about catering to the minority and making a hardcore “arena” style MLG experience, all over fandoms and demographics were neglected.

Considering that jobs and companies like rooster teeth were made by machinima and community creations, yeah machinima is still a big deal
Machinima has been dead for me for the past couple years. Reach was the last good game for machinimas, arby n the chief, rvb, rise of the spartans, etc. All machinima now is gaming news, just like ign.
In what world did reach have equal starts? Did you play reach??
Let’s admit this:
If Red vs Blue is able to do it, everyone else can do it.
Just waitin to see if Season 14 is Halo 5 or Halo 4 again.

Red vs Blue began as a Machinima, and it’s still going strong.

You spawn with the same weapons…

Really? I need to keep up with this stuff.

I think the real deciding factor here will be how things are after the forge update. If they add in the weapon lowering animations and make a couple changes to theater like making zoom more simple and having you be able to play and pause without bringing up that little menu, then we’ll be okay. The Machinima community has been on the small side for a while now, and it may stay that way for the rest of its lifespan. But hey, we’re still here and kickin’. 343. Don’t forget about us… Or Roosterteeth. You know, now that I think about it. If anyone can get 343 to make H5 Machinima worthy it’s roosterteeth. They literally can’t do RvB without the fixes I mentioned that need to happen.
I’m actually really ticked off by the weapon lowering…
Not even just for Machinimators like Rooster Teeth, but because in custom games, when we were just screwing around, I had my weapon lowered.
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
To be fair, Bungie didn’t really care about machinima either. Ever since the end of the Halo 2 era, features that made machinima possible have slowly been going out the window. Machinima was never really about a game creator giving you the tools, but learning how you yourself can create “movies” out of something not conventionally built for it.
And machinima has been alive and well long before forge. If anything, forge maps looks super dull and boring and only detract what could be achieved on a non-forge map.
All they need to do is either (1) fix theater mode or (2) someone figure out a way to remove the aiming reticle (sp) in the center of the screen.
In every new halo, the old machinima creators complain about the engine changing, but that’s just the way it is. It’s the circle of life. Things move forward, for better or for worse.
And this may sound ranty but it’s really not. More of an encouragement to figure out how to make it work

Machinima (the channel) killed investment in to the media format.
Reach and Halo 4 were disliked for having armour abilities and clonky story-telling.
Halo 5 was disliked for even clonkier story-telling and it’s vast lack of mainstay features.
Most people just don’t see the point in Halo anymore other than a means to kill time or as a B/C-Class eSport, which 343 decided to just roll with.
343 recognises there’s a story but it’s like ‘Eh, hey, let’s just throw some ideas in to a number machine and call out a winner’. They’ve openly admitted to not knowing where things are going to go from here onward and it comes as no surprise that there are zero plans to even do anything regarding the community as a whole since the sole focus is just on the eSports scene. They have no obligation to please people. It’s just a game. It’s their jobs. Halo, by it’s current direction is already six-feet under and still digging.
Repetitive gameplay? What have you been playing? It’s no more repetitive than any other Halo game.

Yeah, when they did the first season they only wanted five episodes, it was so popular and highly demanded that they’re now at the end of their 13th season.

No, not really. You could select your loadout in most playlists. And change it before respawning. One player could have a jetpack, and another could have armor lock. Not exactly equal.

They do have the option, however I imagine someone screwed up in designing it, as the weapon lowers on screen, but not on the player model

repetitive as in the same 3-4 maps. At least the other Halo games had more variety of maps to play from so you didn’t end up memorizing the maps from top to bottom within a day.
