Here is something odd I have noticed whenever I play big team; I’m usually the only one who is working the machine gun turret spawn. Im thinking it’s because people might be intimidated by it a little, it is tricky to use effectively and requires a good bit of skill and strategy. Well fear not because shootin sammy is here to help you get better with the machine gun turret.
So first of all a turret class must be made. Gunner is a no brainer; eliminating the movement speed penalty is impossible to overlook. My favorite AA with the machine gun turret is promethean vision. You are able to use it as normal while carrying a turret. All the other AAs just don’t really work with the turret, or not as well. They make you drop it and are just a nuisance really with the turret. As for a tactical package, I use AA effeciency to increase the number of available promethean scans. Don’t need grenadier, not going to be throwing grenades with the turret. Don’t need mobility, not going to be sprinting with the turret, don’t need firepower, yadda yadda. Shielding if you want sure fine whatever. Your guns and grenades, well it dosent matter really when turreting. Your discretion here.
Ok now we have a class, let’s talk about the how to actually use the turret when you have it. So the first thing I’m going to stress is USE THAT 3RD PERSON VIEW! This is actually really important. You can see opponents around corners when they are unable to see you. Constantly be spying on people out of sight with that 3rd person camera, and when someone strays towards you then attack! Get to an area with a high volume of enemies coming through like the structure in the middle of exile. More people to shoot at. engage when you see your opponent will be at a disadvatage, such as not looking in your direction.
Also always shoot at vehicals. The turret does massive damage to vehicals, much much more effective than your dmr. so fire away on them.
Well then I hope I have convinced you, pick that turret up! It’s really good and fun to use.
The most satisfying part of getting turret kills is when you shoot down a banshee. Good lord, it feels incredible.
That being said, it is fun when you beat a turret user.
Good strategy.
it should be said that just because it’s on the tripod does not mean you NEED to rip it off.
I’ve seen people go p to the turret spawn, rip of the turret, and then move nowhere else, they just stay where the turret spawns and they shoot at stuff…what was the point in riping it off then?
good strategies, especially using the 3rd person view for corner-looking

I would rip it off on Ragnerok (It’s in the open) Exile, (Sniper can easily get you) and Meltdown (Infantry will not walk in front of that one, and the teleporters might mess you up.)

Yes that’s a good point. When I get to the turret I’ll pause before ripping it, just to see if there is anyone in the area to fire on as it does save ammo and the gaurd on the turret is much more effective than people realize. Afterwards I’ll rip it
> Another thing I wish there was more of were plasma turrets. There are plenty of human turrets yet no plasma turrets. Disappointing.
their absence is credited to their poor combat capabilities
they are extremely inaccurate, only effective when fired in 3-round bursts (funny thing to note, they are more accurate when un-mounted from the tripod)
other than that, it’s a projectile weapon, meaning that plasma bolts take time to get to their target, unlike the MG’s Hitscan bullets
343 in this halo or the next should add a new kind of turret; a forrunner turret. It would focus a continuous beam of hardlight enery, dealing big damage! That would be awsome.
Either that or bring back the sentinel beam, I miss that gun. Halo 4 is missing a beam weapon at any rate.
The reason i dont personally never liked machine turrets that w=much was the same reason i never really liked playing Heavy weapons guyb in team fortress 2…
I dont think its worth it to sacrifice mobility and DM skill for slightly more firepower…
None-the-less, I still like to go rambo with it from time to time, and i gotta say, The tips in this thread are not bad at all…
Nice one Sammy, now while your at it I could use some tips for heavy weapons guy…
