how much damage does a single round do i was thinking maybe it could take out a phantom
How big? MAC rounds vary from the 25mm rounds used in the turrets of Gauss Warthogs to huge, 3,000-ton rounds used in SMACs.
lets see if im right here. but didnt the mac cannon obliterate the big tower in tip of the spear on halo reach
The MAC rounds that the human vesels and orbital platforms fire in the books are able to take out Covenant carriers. But you can’t really say how much damage they can do, because often the Captains of the ships use complex aeronautical maneuvers in tandem with them, such as firing as the Covenant vessel charges its plasma coils (their shields go down for a split second) or launching other weapons first, like Archer missiles.
But overall, they can do a LOT of damage. And as someone else said, there are different types of MAC rounds that the UNSC uses.
Even smaller, the .21 M99 slug is quite devastating for such a small piece of ferrous metal.

Um, you can make a MAC round even smaller than that, the tech wouldn’t be that hard to “down size”.

I was just asking what kind of MAC round does OP mean. I also completely forgot the 5.4mm rounds used in Stanchion rifles. As OP didn’t respond to my post, I will calculate the kinetic energies for MAC rounds that I can get enough data needed to make the calculations:
5.4mm (.21 cal) Stanchion round:
25mm Gauss turret round:
600 ton shipborn MAC round: 270 TJ (terajoules)
3,000 ton SMAC round: 22 EJ (exajoules)
As you can see, I couldn’t get power for the Stanchion rifle or Gauss turret rounds, but those are the numbers for the big guns.
