I was only able to play the beta with controller and the experience was to be expected with controller and was unable to use mouse and keyboard. For our M+K counter parts, what was experience for you all? Was it similar to MCC experience where you didn’t have a even field.
It all boils down to personal preference in the end, tbh. Some people have been playing Halo with a controller since 2001, and will always stick with the input Halo was originally designed for. Others swear by the precision of using a mouse and keyboard.
With that being said, M&K seems a little stronger than controller in Infinite to me (I tried both inputs). I don’t think the controller aim assist is as weak as some claim it is, but I found myself to outclass other players more when I played on PC. Again, though, that’s my personal experience. Everyone’s got a different one.
aim assist was heavily reduced for Infinite making m+k much easier to use than a controller.
I don’t really have a preference in most games. For instance I prefer to play Overwatch with a mouse and keyboard, but there’s just something in my 20 year habits of Halo that won’t let me move on from a controller.
So for Halo Infinite I’ll be choosing controller.
Like FresherTresher already said, it comes down to personal preferences (Everbody has different experiences, so everybody has different opinions)
I played over 55h in the flight for Infinite with Mnk and Controller and the following was my experience:
Pros MnK:
-
Turn speed, General aiming especially in surprising situations
-
Precision weapons like skewer, Sniper and at some ranges Pistol was easier to use for me
-
General Precision and turning in vehicles was also easier for mePros Controller:
-
Movement feels more responsive (at least with my settings, it feels like sprinting and sliding takes a tad longer to register with MnK <---- maybe a bug?)
-
AA (but only at close range with AR, Sidekick at really close range, Commando has since the last flight more AA, BR at mid-range)Just take whatever you feel more comfortable with. And like TheHappyGoat said, Infinite has a lot less AA than previous Halo titles, FYI.
Sketch (a 343i employee) already confirmed problems with Controller aiming (https://twitter.com/ske7ch/status/1443367619625504768). Maybe it will feel better on launch, we have to wait.
I vote for M&K.
Movement and aiming should feel better. Plus if you play other shooters it’s great practice. I feel like with a mouse there’s more room to grow. Your thumbs only have so many muscles in them and you can only be so accurate because of that. There’s so many different shapes and sizes of mice that’ll fit any hand.
Depending on how the game launches in December will probably be a deciding factor. If aim assist is substantial and movement stays the same, a controller might be the way to be the most consistent. It’s hard to say because the flight didn’t exactly run that great for a lot of people and that’ll definitely effect your aim with a mouse too.

I don’t feel like I’m getting upstaged in MCC on m&kb personally. My time with Infinite was fairly trying though. Tracking a good strafe was incredibly difficult because of the wild acceleration and base movement speed. I think it’ll improve a bit as I narrow down my sensitivity values, with more optimization to the game, and hopefully with full-blown Fullscreen.
But if a lot of the controller players were experiencing some aim assist errors due to a weird deadzone bug, then I expect I’m going to get rolled pretty bad right out of the gate.

Yea I’m trying to roll M+K on Halo Infinite and I would hate to be suppressed by controller AA while trying to enjoy the game in the way I want to. Currently I have to play H3 with controller for obvious reasons when playing competitive games.
Kb+m is more precise but requires a desk (mostly) controller is more comfy (couch, laid back). Depends entirely on your personal preference like some here already stated.
Controller, of course. I’m not a member of the PC “master” race. Smh
I used both an Xbox One Wireless Controller and a Keyboard and Mouse with customizable DPi… I honestly enjoyed that Infinite had WAY more mouse sensitivity options and the ability to more precisely set your sensitivity which helps tremendously.
I also liked that you can also rebind buttons on controller to anything you want, regardless of what setup you usually use, and being able to play around with the deadzone that affects the analog turn acceleration also made it much easier for me to re adjust using ultra low sensitivity on my sticks which helped me better find a middle ground between lazy aim assisted play or fairly fast reaction turn speeds by flicking my stick all the way to the side (tho I honestly wish the acceleration setting would go up higher than 5 as this just seems too slow still, or maybe I just have to play around with the deadzones more).
It felt good to play with either, tho obviously, tracking with automatic weapons from further away as well as sniping was much easier on mouse, as well as leading projectile weapons… Controller was much more relaxed as I didn’t have to worry as much about overcorrecting my aim due to my movement and I could have more casual fun with it, it’s also more fun and somewhat less annoying to use most vehicles on controller (and forge in MCC too tbh…), I also more often than not got higher Accuracy ratings on controller (probably because I would spend more time shooting up close)…
Things like the repulsor and hookshot felt so much better on K&M tho, because the snappy movement allowed for more creative use of said equipment… so just because of that I am probably gonna spend more time using K&M, especially in BTB where I am mostly on foot anyway…

I didn’t realize that they did reduce the amount of aim assist actually.

They did actually reduce how aggressive the crosshair sticks and auto tracks targets moving in a line or jumping while you are mirroring the opponent’s movement, but it is still there. In the shooting range I just had to once in awhile re adjust the analog stick very slightly in the direction the training dummy was moving towards to keep the crosshair on their head, but it was still pretty good at dealing with the usual left right spammy strafe when I tested it vs Spartan lvl bots which love to do that motion…
Where the auto aim tracking became a problem was with high recoil automatic weapons such as the Commando… no matter how hard I tried, that gun felt very rough on controller full auto. You HAVE to control your shots on it just to stay on target, tho to be fair it was just as tricky on K&M, I’m just experienced with FPSs that require recoil control on K&M so it didn’t bother me as much on it…

Like i said, Infinite has a lot less AA than MCC (This includes previous Halo Titles) and i would consider me as a good player (not a Pro, but not bad) with both input devices and i was in advantage using MnK almost in every situation.
As an advice, just take whatever you like more to play and what is more fun to use for you.
If controller aiming is anything like the flights in the final release, I’ll definitely prefer using a mouse. Too bad I’m not planning to build a computer that can run the game until the middle of next year.
I would love to play KB+M but I’ll be using controller for the ease I think.
Controller, as it always has been
I made this same post on a large Facebook group and between here and that source also the major census would be that keyboard and mouse might be the move for the next title. That’s wild!
I personally use a controller most of the time but after the flight, I think I might be switching to M+K to see if the game feels better to play on that.
The m+kb players said the controllers were op and the controller players said m+kb was op
