That is the luck of getting kill credit in firefight games. If the game loves you and feels like gifting you credit for all the kills then you get all the power. If the game hates you and see’s you dumping hundreds of rounds (or you know doing 90% of thier damage with power weapons, or shooting them with vehicles) into bosses and still is like no go away and die, you end up going into round 5 at req 5. 100% purely down to the games luck system.
I just played a game, I was winning in every round due to SKILL, but because i didnt get kill credit on the last 2 bosses, I lost. My “performance” was no longer anything at all in any capacity dependant upon my skill but my luck.
Luck has TOO much power in this game and it needs resolving, especially if such game types or scoring modes are carrying on in future titles
It is frustrating to do a bunch of damage to a boss, and then die when it’s almost dead, and not get any credit while your team finishes it off. Happens to me all the time. It would have been nice if you get a boss takedown based on the percentage of damage you dealt to it, or something. By the way, I also think Warthog drivers shouldn’t necessarily need their gunner to get the actual killing shot in order to get any credit for a boss takedown.
I’ll never understand how it works. I’ll put mass amounts of damage into a boss and not have it count as my kill. I also don’t like that if you die as the boss dies you loose credit for the kill as well. There’s also been times where I’ve respawned and hit the boss once and got credit.

Do people care this much about firefight rankings? I don’t think it matters all this much?

I hope most people don’t since it’s not that big a deal, but it can be annoying when you’re putting a lot of damage into a boss and then you don’t get credit for it.
It’s not luck at all actually. It’s not a hard system to figure out. In firefight you have to deal damage to the boss when it’s almost dead, approximately like 1/8th of it’s life left. Yeah it can be frustrating to not get credit if you do a lot of damage and die or the boss gets away from you and some one else takes it out. But it is firefight so it’s not that big a deal really IMO. What is even more frustrating…or fun if you are a guy like me…is stealing them in regular warzone. That used to be my main purpose and reason to play regular warzone. To see a boss almost dead and then swoop in with a banshee or place a well timed and placed tank shot or sniper rifle shot and steal a boss…oh so sweet
This is what frustrates me about war zone firefight and the normal war zone mode. So much potential to be an amazing mode, but fatal flaws hold it back so much. Hopefully they will learn from it and halo infinite will do it better if it returns

I’ll admit I do like to rank well, and generally i’m first or second without being a ghost splatter spammer in rounds 2 and 3. It is a “sense of pride” in that sense for me.
Theres also the problem of some games where I’m being stuck at req 5 in round 5 because every round has bosses and the game rng’s me out of kill credit meaning I’m getting no power increase no matter how well I play, even with 0 deaths and a reasonable kill count otherwise.
Slightly annoying yes, but as long as we win the game, I don’t really care if I get credit for boss kills or not since whether I’m in 1st or 8th place, it still goes down as a W at the end of the game. I spend most of my Firefight games using a BR/DMR anyway until I feel like the squad needs a little extra help… Or I don’t feel like playing extra Firefight games because I keep losing… Yeah, that’s actually the real reason I take out anything higher than a Loadout Req in Firefight lol.
You cannot program luck therefore it has nothing to do with luck it is simply a credit system you do not like. I understand I have had games where I felt like I deserved credit for a kill but died before the end and got none and games where I came in at the last min and got credit when I did very little relatively speaking. It happens. Close doesn’t count. Finish the boss and you will get credit if it feels like something wonkey happened it’s not because there game is treating you unfairly. It is important and not sentient and therefore incapable of favoritism. sooooooo when you get that wonkey feeling it’s because you did something wonkey.
My understanding is that luck is literally everything about this game and I hate it. It’s luck if you’re credited for a kill in Warzone Firefight, it’s luck if you get a good rewarding match completed, it’s luck if you don’t get spawn killed 3 or more times in a row in any Slayer or Super Fiesta variant, and it’s luck if you get the permanent unlock(s) that you want. All of these factors are really starting to push me away from the game and it’s mostly that all I really want is the Deadeye helmet. I wish it was something I could earn, but I have to either get the 1 in 1000 chance for the helmet, grind for a long time until it’s guaranteed to drop, or give into my frustrations and buy $300 worth of reqs like all those YouTubers seems to enjoy doing.
