I’ve been unable to find free for all matches / BTB takes too long. Competitive is impossible
I live in NA east, i feel like it shouldnt be this way especially after the update. Is there something wrong on my end?

I think people feel kind of pissed about no new cosmetics this week so most players are probably waiting till next week before they start playing again. I’ll admit, I’m having a hard time finding motivation for MCC matchmaking myself this week.
it was updated so that you can get it this week… haven’t others heard about it yet?
I’m not sure about that. MCC has been struggling for a while. It seems like every time I take a break from Halo MCC and come back population seems to get worse. Been trying to play social and competitive and it seems dead on Xbox. As for PC I’ve tried loading MCC on Steam Deck and it’s unplayable at the moment so I’m not really sure if only linux users have been having issues.
Anyway according to Steam Charts it’s under 4k so I guess generally population on Xbox/PC population is pretty low these days.

We can’t really judge xbox’s population as we don’t have an accurate counter and I’d be willing to bet most people spend their time in CGB other than Matchmaking so finding games in MM isn’t really a good way to measure the population anymore.
Not really sure about that. TA tracks ‘popularity charts’ but not sure how accurate those are and I’ve seen custom games too and well there not the best. Sometimes population is hit/miss even in customs.
I’d argue it’s also just a result of 343’s mismanagement of both Infinite and MCC following summer 2021 (even if I personally believe the mistakes began as far back as MCC Season 5), them also putting the update directly into the exchange rather than a series and implying they’re going forward mtx was probably the final nail in the coffin so to speak.

As an Asian player, I spent 30mins waiting for H2A matchmaking yesterday and found no one. More unpopular in Asia 
Its not just you, there is just a low population on the MCC lately
As a workaround i would recommend to expand some of the options in your game search if you were looking to play something in particular (like enabling snipers, heavies, Bomb, etc) and try your luck on H3 / Reach (thats where most of the BTB population is).
You can also try to look for games in the custom browser, there is always a couple of games of BTB on Halo CE\Halo 2 and Halo Reach

cgb is always heavily populated compared to matchmaking though and op was talking about the matchmaking population
Matchmaking is significantly slower than it used to be even more than it was a bit over a year ago. I tried queuing into matchmaking earlier and it took roughly an hour before I finally got queued in. I’m not sure exactly how long it took, because I ended up falling asleep while waiting and waking up 7 mins into a match of BTB lol. I’m surprised I wasn’t booted for idling.
Another factor for low population is probably the result of how zealous the quit bans are. I had an issue yesterday with my input being locked to M&K, while I was trying to use a controller input. I Alt F4’d to not feed to enemy team since I was unable to move or shoot, and was promptly banned after the 1 drop out. A system that aggressive paired with how sweaty some players are even in Social is only going to drive people away. That goes especially for casuals which will make up a large portion of players. To some it may be surprising, but not everyone is some ego driven streamer playing their 48th straight hour of MCC.
Sure the ban is only a few minutes for the first “offense”, but for me I’m just going to play another game instead of twiddling my thumbs waiting. A system like that should be in Ranked only. When I come back from work I’m not going to standby and kick rocks when the game screws up and crashes, or the connection drops, or my controller input isn’t responding, etc.
We dont do that around these parts - only aggressive bans for leaving a game.
