I know he’s voiced by Staten here and in ODST, but why does the voice not sound the same?
I feel like they didnt…idk…digitize his voice enough?
Do you have any examples or comparisons? I am aware it just came out and has likely not been posted online much yet.
Having not heard it myself yet, I can only speculate on some potential causes. People’s voices change as they age. Maybe he can’t quite remember how to do the voice, or wanted to deliver a different performance? Maybe they couldn’t use the exact same filter? Maybe it is a difference in audio quality, either in recording equipment used, compression in the software, quality of speakers you are using to listen to it, or a mixture of all three?
They definitely did not, it feels like it’s just vanilla Joe Staten the AI talking to us. Super off-putting as an ODST/Virgil fan
It’s not a difference of quality or anything like that. Whatever effects they applied to the Superintendent’s voice in ODST, they didn’t apply to it in Infinite.
Ahh, I see. Maybe it’s a mistake or a bug? Perhaps a filter is applied to the audio in-game, though I find it more likely they’d modify the audio before putting it in the files.
Or maybe they were afraid it would sound too low quality when compared to the other AI offerings? Or perhaps it is supposed to be a more sophisticated version of the Super that sounds more human?
Again, I haven’t heard it myself yet and can only speculate. I do hope they restore it to something closer to the voice heard in ODST though. Otherwise what is the point?
They literally showed the superintendent AI in the trailer they released yesterday, so I doubt they would have shown us unfinished audio in a trailer showing off the AI. But if they did, I really hope they add the filter back or else it completely ruins the whole point of having a superintendent AI.
And as far as this goes, I could kinda see that being the case somewhat, not so much the quality but the ease of hearing the voice lines. I disagree if this is the case, but if they say that’s why I could slightly understand their decision there.
I’m not exactly bothered by it, but I do have mixed feelings. On one hand, I’d like it more if it sounded more like ODST, but on the other hand it’s nice that it sounds more like the actual developer. Honestly, I probably would have made 2 versions. One that sounds more like classic Superintendent, and then another of him using his normal voice. Some 343 devs could have been AI voices.
