Lost incentive to play Halo 5

Done three REQ pack opening videos and now, I’m bored with the game. Sure, I could play warzone, rack up more REQ points for a gold pack. But, there’s nothing really rewarding from it. Sure, it may contain a “Legendary” item, but, I don’t want to pour anymore hours into the game just for a randomized reward. And for those who say to play Arena, it’s usually completely one sided. I don’t want to easily dominate or get dominated easily because of poor team mates.

I the only one that feels like this?

Play for fun? Back in my day we didn’t have no fancy “REQ packs” we had this thing called “fun”.

EDIT: You also have over 10 days of multiplayer play time. Play some other games and take a break you have gotten more than your moneys worth.

Take a breather. I am still enjoying the game.

That’s just it though. This is the first Halo game where I’ve lost incentive to play. Will the updates bring me back? Yes, but only out of curiosity to see what’s new and how it plays. Afterwards… I’ll be bored again

you mean like how every other halo game has always played when it comes to 4v4 or 5v5?

If if you’re bored, you’re bored. There are other games to play, nothing says we have to only play one game.

Considering how I have over 28 days played of MCC (I believe), and I continue to go back to that one…

That is effectively 4 games in one so not really a fair comparison.

Personally i still really enjoy the game and think i will for many months to come.

That’s why I never bothered playing CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST, Reach, or Halo 4. Not enough damn REQ packs to make playing those games worth my time. Where’s the fun in sitting on my butt playing Halo with my friends if I don’t have a carrot on a stick to entice me? Back in the day, my friends said “Hey man, you wanna play some Combat Evolved?” and I said “What’s in it for me? I’m not gonna pour hours of my time into a game for nothing!” You think video games are a game? You think we do this for fun? You think being a Super Soldier in Mjolnir armor shooting aliens is “cool”, 343? Hell no! In fact, I think they should update the MCC so that we can earn Halo 5 REQ packs there. Why else would I play Halo 2?

Okay, enough of the sarcasm. You see how these reward systems start to replace the fun of the game? The “fun of the game” used to be the reward. Now it’s not. You did your homework, your chores, finished a long shift at work, then you reward yourself by getting to play some Halo. Now Halo has become the chore we have to do in order to get the reward … which is just some stupid random digital slot machine jackpot of armor reskins and redundant weapon variants for Warzone.

[on a side note, regarding Arena, that’s mostly what I play, and yeah, I think the ranking system is a little jacked. I’ll go 20-7 one match, then 7-20 the next. Usually, the more you play, the smoother it gets if you stick to the “Team Arena” playlist. That one has objectives in there, so it’s a bit more casual overall than Slayer. Just a suggestion. That’s where I have the most fun]

Anyway, this doesn’t apply to everyone, of course (nor is it directed specifically at you, OP, it’s more a criticism of reward systems in general), so don’t jump down my throat. I don’t play for REQ points. I play Halo cuz Halo. I’m not trying to be mean here, just maybe try to remember why we play Halo in the first place.

EDIT: Also, Infection and Firefight coming soon (Firefight Beta in 2 days) so that should help.

Firefight and Infection will probably bring me back for a day. Only reason I’m coming back for those is because I want some gameplay for my YouTube channel to give others a chance to see how the gametypes play.

But, yeah, going back to what you said about older Halo games, I’ve been playing H2A and MCC snipers a lot lately. Winning in those playlists is much more fun and rewarding than grinding for randomized rewards. I mean, with Halo 5, all you literally have to do is shoot at the ground and walk in a circle and you still get points for that : P

Nooooooope

I lost incentive ages ago. I may jump on for an evening or two, and I plan on testing Firefight this weekend. Other than that:

-Paint warhammer
-Sculpt and Animate on Blender for own game project
-Play How to Survive 2, Starcraft 2, Starpoint Gemini 2, Deus Ex OG, Deus Ex: HR on PC
-Write game design stuff
-Discuss with programmer
-Play How to Survive, Project Spark, Warframe, Smite on Xbox.

Got bored, just like you. Haven’t finished silver packs yet even.

As others have astutely pointed out, if it’s no longer fun for you then don’t play it.

Gamer’s fascination with loot and grinding makes absolutely no sense to me…

I play it because it is fun. I try to win but that doesn’t happen every time. Instead what I did was join a company, got some dependable teammates that also enjoy just playing the game, and then play some halo and have conversations that have nothing to do with halo. Put on a mic and talk to your random teammates. Get a group of buddies together and play some customs. Not everyone cares if they win or lose because most people understand it is a game. That is all. Just a game. After one match ends another one begins. No matter what your last match you played means nothing. “I don’t want to mess up my stats”. Easy solution, don’t play that character. Get you another account and let that character just sit there with nice stats that you can look at every now and then.

Yeah, and that’s ruined Warzone Assault and wasted a lot of my time reporting people. lol

That’s why I changed my signature just now. Down with the REQ system, I say.

There’s so much to do in H5 from my standpoint. Getting used to this game is obviously one of them, but knowing that req packs further your progress for that one armor set you want when you don’t know more than half of them is a heavyweight. Friends make the experience wayy better for me though!

For me:
-Writing my own book series
-Speedrun the old halo games
-focus on life (since Halo 5 doesn’t want me to destroy it apparently XD)

play another game? it seems like you got bored. gta is always fun… maybe some gears. gears beta comes out next week i believe.

I feel like they forced teams though to the point where you need one to have a good time, or at least a somewhat enjoyable time

You don’t have to have a carrot dangled in front of your face to play and enjoy a game. Goldeneye 64 held my attention as a pre-teen for years by trying to get better at it, as did every Halo game. You don’t have to have some elusive item or gear to go after to play a game. That’s a big problem with this era of games.

Now that iv’e got my head around Forge, I like to go and sink a few hours in there when I get bored of killing Spartans.
