I’ve been reading about how some content like flames are unobtainable now, and it makes me wonder why it’s the way it is nowadays. Did Bungie or 343 ever say that some stuff would be locked forever once Halo was handed over to 343? Why couldn’t they have left it unlockable?

Things like Blue Flames and Recon were announced to be unobtainable before Bungie handed the franchise over to 343 and Microsoft, there were cut off dates for obtaining them. I don’t know the entire details surrounding why, but those aspects / functionality were never transferred from Bungie.net to Halo Waypoint as part of the transition. I guess there’s the added costs of supporting and maintaining legacy servers to manage them. 343 probably wouldn’t want to keep up with everything and move on with their own projects, so at some point they need to decide what to end support for and what to progress forward

They were also Bungie’s final farewell gifts to the community before they moved on, the community that had been with them up until the launch of Reach. Recon was slightly different as it was unlocked in 2 or 3 waves after the transition, but again they don’t have the ability to do that any more. Perhaps it was Bungie that never passed them on and left them as a gift to those who were there and supported them - I’ve never fully looked back to find out. It’s unfortunate for new players, but can’t keep supporting everything forever

Interesting, seeing Flames and the Halo Waypoint helmets on Reach makes me wish Halo 5 had little add ons like that. I appreciate the aesthetics Halo Reach had and really wanted to see it in future games.

Yeah I always did like the flames myself. Hopefully in some of the future games 343 would consider bring something like this back again
