Lost 18 of last 23 Matches in HCS

As the title states I’ve lost about 18 of my last 23 matches in the HCS playlist. I have a masters in economics and have taken advanced coursed in statistics and based on this outcome I have reason to believe something is not right. The odds of me losing that many games of the last 23 is very slim. It’s not like I’ve taken a long break or anything so me getting worse at the game is not a likely explanation. I think it must be that either

  1. Playlist population is very low and I’m getting bad matches (although even then over numerous matches the outcome on average should be the same as with higher population assuming the rank distribution of those players who still play is the same as before)
  2. I’m being matched with teams of 4 for some reason (maybe due to low playlist numbers)
  3. I got considerably worse in one day or everyone else got significantly better
  4. The ranking system changed in some fundamental way and 343 hasn’t said anything

has anyone else been on a massive losing streak recently? I could go significantly more into the math behind my reasoning but I don’t think it’s necessary.

Try playing on focused. Also, I would strongly recommend against solo queuing in HCS. Get some new friends or join a Spartan Company. Lastly, you can’t expect to win games you don’t play (did not finish because you left the game).

Yhea that’s right if you wanna win in HCS is better to play whit a full team of 4 dude that playlist is really hard to play by yourself

Wow! Brilliant Insight! Who would have thought you can’t win games you quit! There’s no way I was getting destroyed in those games and decided to quit before they ended.

You are so welcome! Anytime!

That’s some terrible luck. Maybe you were playing alot of teams that were running together, while you were stuck with other players who were also playing solo? HCS is probably the hardest playlist to rank up in solo. Best to find 3 other players around your skill level and try to rank up together.

Without being able to look at your game history it’s hard to form any theories about what’s happening, but I will say this: The straight win/loss metric is a lot less meaningful (to me) than the margins of victory. That many losses might only be significant if they’re all landslide losses. If, on the other hand, tight scores were the order of the day for those 23 matches then I’d say that you were probably still well-matched. Of course nobody wants to lose 18 times out of 23, but I blame 343 for exacerbating the problem by making Halo 5 ranks depend almost exclusively on winning and losing. Wins and losses are one way to measure success, but they’re reductive as a measure of ability, and that’s why so many people are frustrated by win/loss skill assessment.

Good points. Very good points.
Losing streak doesn’t necessarily mean bad matchmaking. The fairest match has a 50-50 chance of you winning or losing; statistically speaking, getting 18 tails out of 23 coin flips is entirely possible.

Also there are 8 human players in each HCS match, each of which has the potential to clutch or throw a match. Because of all that variability, statistics about W/L don’t work the same way as flipping a coin. This means it can actually be easier to lose 18/23 matches than get 18/23 tails.
You also have to take into account the team you were playing with. If you lost multiple times in a row with the same team, then most people would find a new team. If you stayed with people who were holding you back then statistics have nothing to do with it.

You can’t just solo que and expect to win in HCS. Grab a team and go in and see the difference
