I am confused about this. I can understand why no more dual wield for a gameplay mechanic but in the lore why is it gone? Palmer uses twin magnums as her main weapons, yet the other spartans can’t for some reason. John-117 used dual wield in the previous games (H2, H3) so why can’t he do it now? did he forget how to do it between the past 4 years he was stuck on Forward onto Dawn? im pretty sure that isnt right, because he can still kill just as efficiently (Granted the player is killing, but still) so what happened between H3 and H4? and dont say Reach had something to do with it. There’s a reason why there was no dual wield for them and it’s because their armor didn’t support dual wield. the Mjolnir MK VI armor was the first to support dual wield canonically, even though spartans in Halo Wars could do it too but they were badasses so they need no explanation, and now spontaneously it can’t do that, and neither can the other Spartan IIs or Spartan IVs except Palmer. Someone please explain this to me because I’ve been going over the situation about that over and over. It’s like how in Gears of War: Judgement you can use any weapon with a boomshield, however in games that are canonically later in the series, nobody can do this at all. I need a lore explanation for why Dual Wield is unusable/ isn’t used by spartans except palmer.
There is no lore explanation.
Its a game play reason. Anyone with two hands can dual wield. Its all game play choices, not a reflection of real life. I hope this helps!
Sincerely,

Dual wielding is horrendously impractical for combat. Less stability, accuracy, harder to reload 2 guns at once. And as a gameplay element it only screwed over the entirety of the weapon sandbox and was stupidly cartoonish. Good riddance.

true however from a fun standpoint people loved it, but it wasn’t practical
no lore reason just gameplay choices

You mean less stability and accuracy by today’s standards. We don’t have the technology like the UNSC has to reduce those problems. Now, the reloading part, yes that would still be a problem. Utilize cover!
I don’t think there is a reason canonically I’m pretty sure Palmer does it, but her pistols were Hax.
Speculation: it’s cheaper to put out VISR firmware that doesn’t support Smart-Link dual wielding.
I’m pretty sure that while Mk. VI had aim assist software, that Master Chief is a bad -Yoink- enough to handle two weapons at the same time while overriding the aim assist.
As for Palmer? She probably has a special helmet, firmware, etc. that allows her to do so, else she’s familiar with that form of combat.
As for the typical Spartan IV, it’s not really a skill they’d bring with them, so unless it was taught to them, I don’t see a real expectation for all of them to be capable, just like all aren’t capable of speaking Sanghelli, or engineering stuff.
Also dual wielding by Spartans is seen, canonical, as early as 2530, in Halo Wars, and probably before that.
I originally assumed that Mark-V wasn’t compatible with duel-wielding, and Mark-VI upgraded upon its VISR firmware so that it could display akimbo combat. I guess most of the GEN 2 systems must be cheaper to put out without the feature and that situations which require duel-wielding are less common. However, that doesn’t explain why Mark-IV armour could support it in the Package.
Of course it’s just for gameplay reasons. I would like to see it return, though.
I’m sure it said somewhere that the Mjolnir, or at least one of the Marks, had the firmware to include a secondary firearm, which was why you couldn’t do it in ODST even though it was running on the 3 engine.
I believe it’s not in the subsequent games purely for gameplay reasons.
But Palmer does look boss with them two magnums, even if she is rippin off Lara Croft.
Perhaps we might see it in cut scenes if nothing else.

That’s true, but only SPARTANs and Sangheili can canonically dual wield (because of their skills and ability to concentrate using two weapons at once). Though Mark VI was the first SPARTAN armor to allow it.

I’m pretty sure Chief was duel wielding in the Package in his Mark IV though.
Maybe it makes it harder to climb up things in Halo 5, but I doubt that would be a legitimate reason

There is no lore reason and really doesn’t need to be. It’s just a gameplay choice. In Halo 5 we can’t use the helmets inbuilt magnification as we have the smart-linking system instead, doesn’t mean the feature is gone in universe, it just has no place in the current gameplay.

Damn, I forgot about it. That’s true, but as far as I recall only Spartans and Sangheili have the ability to dual wield.

Miranda Keyes did it all the time.

What? If you gave pretty much anyone two pistols they could pick them both up and fire…

As accurately as Elites or Spartans does?
