Just bought an X1 and the MCC recently. On Halo 4 now.
Few questions. Humans existed around 200,000 years ago, but more advanced, right? Were they called Chawkas? The home world was called Terryed-Heyne or something. Just Earth with a different name. What happened to our ruins? Are we supposed to believe Halo rings completely destroy everything? No evidence left? Also. Am I right here? The Forerunners nearly wiped us out, and we basically started over, then Halo rings went off after that? Also, I beat Halo 3 earlier today. When Truth said your Forefathers left you, what did he mean by that? Is Didact the only living Forerunner left? What about his wife? Where is she? Are there any Precursors left? That’s all I can think of for now. I’m sure I’ll have more later. Thanks to all who help.
This post gave me a good laugh. Alright, where do I start?
Yes, humans existed in a more advanced form over 100,000 years ago. As punishment for their war with the Forerunners, they were devolved back into a primitive state. They were not called Chakwas; you’re probably thinking of Chakas, who was one of the devolved humans (he later became 343 Guilty Spark, but that’s another story). Earth was called Erde-Tyrene in those days. There are still ruins left; the Halo rings only destroy Precursor artifacts.
The Librarian (the Didact’s wife) chose humanity to replace the Forerunners as caretakers of the galaxy after the rings fired, which is why Truth says that our “forefathers” abandoned us, our forefathers being the Forerunners.
The Didact is the only Forerunner confirmed to still be alive, but it is probable that there are others somewhere in the universe. The Precursors still exist as the Flood.
Hope this helps.
So there are old Human ruins still on Earth? Also. Did Truth actually believe in the Great Journey crap? He seemed to know what was going on, or one of the other Prophets did. And if they devolved us back as punishment for the war, does that mean that we started it?
I don’t believe there are any ancient human ruins still on Earth, but there are on other worlds.
Truth figured out the truth about the rings, and I assume he wanted to activate them anyway so that he could be the supreme ruler of the galaxy or something like that. He was quite possibly insane.
Ancient humans were the first species to encounter the Flood. They knew how dangerous it was, so when Forerunner worlds started becoming infected, the humans destroyed them. The Forerunners didn’t know about the Flood yet, so they thought the humans were attacking them for no reason. Thus, the Human-Forerunner War began. The Forerunners won and devolved the humans, and it’s around that time that they learned about the Flood.
I see. And Didact was a part of that war? He’s pretty dang old then.

Yep, he was commander of the entire Forerunner military at the time. So yeah, he’s pretty friggin’ old.

And all his kids died in the war.
He was at the top of Forerunner society. His rate was the Warrior-Servants and sub rate was called the Prometheans.
Forerunners live for over 10,000 years, the didact however has spent the past 100,000 years in effectively cryo. Though it seems those in Cryptums are still mentally awake while frozen.
As for Truth refering to forerunners as humanity’s forefather’s, it’s possible he merely had his information wrong and thought they were related. Sadly even Broken Circle didn’t reveal his motivations
There is a second Didact, called the Iso-Didact, or Bornstellar Didact. (Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting was his name before becoming Didact.) This one is cool, the one you see in game (Ur-Didact) is kinda crazy because the Flood made him that way. There was also a second Lifeshaper (a title previously held by the Librarian, who was the Didacts wife.) Her name is Chant To Green. Those two are prominent and are very likely to be alive, but that is not confirmed and up for debate.
So yeah, I would read the Forrunner trilogy,as they are really good.
But this information is also good to have.
Now even I wish it was called Terryed-Heyne.

Sounds like it could be Spartan-1337’s homeward!
As long as his homeward isn’t gassed by Convent.

Mine was those -Yoink!- Convent.
Funny story, when i was first intro’d to halo by my cousin, like a week before I got H:CE for christmas, he called them the Convent.
Hah. Homeward* whoops. Well this is amusing.
A 343 employee posted on my first thread I made? Well, things are going well.
Also, Grim, I noticed you’re the writer. I don’t know if you’re on of many, or the only one, but good job on Halo 4. I liked 1-3’s stories. But I’m only on Mission 7/10, and I feel it’s already better written and told than any other Halo I’ve played.

Uhh he’s a Community Manager and lore guy, but IIRC not a writer. I’m probably wrong on that but Halo 4 was done by Christopher Shlerf and Brian Reed.
Oh, I just assumed. His profile said Writer@ 343 Industries.
