Lore heavy campaign....

I know that I’m in the minority here, but Halo 4 was the best, most well connected campaign with the expanded universe, in my opinion. Which was one thing that I feel 343i really delivered on, and got completely right. I remember Frankie saying that was one thing they wanted to do, and they did. The forerunner saga tied in beautifully with the campaign, as did the kilo-6 novels. I thought for sure that H5 was going to keep the story moving right alongside the EU, because to me, the EU is what makes Halo, Halo. Then H5 came out, and it felt like 343i did to Halo, what Disney did to Star Wars. It felt like they pulled they pulled the rug out from me as I played a campaign that felt completely foreign and disconnected from anything that I knew.

I honestly hope that H6 gets back to being connected to the EU, there was so much set up with the forerunner saga, and H4 only scratched the surface of humanity claiming the mantle of responsibility. So much more about the Librarian’s plan for Chief, Halsey and humanity were all swept under the rug, and I hope they answer them in H6. For me, if H6 shoves the EU aside, it will be my last game.

As I stated earlier, I know that I’m in the minority here, but I play for the campaign, the story is what keeps me coming back. I have enjoyed the art style changes, and how gameplay movement has evolved, as the Spartans now move like they do in the EU, instead of slow moving tanks. I just hope they correct the campaign and get back to the great story telling they had in H4.

If you read this, thanks. I just wanted a place to vent amongst other Halo fans.

I 100% agree. From purely a story perspective, halo 4 is my favorite halo game (which I know is an extremely unpopular opinion). Halo CE and 3 are still my favorite to play through, but 4 was the first time I felt like there was a solid connection to the EU. There was also a solid balance between the macro story with the didact and the forerunners, and then a more character focused narrative with MC and Cortana.
The one good thing that 5 did was finally bring in blue team, but they decided to give the bulk of the campaign to osiris for some reason.

ive really enjoyed all the halos campaign feel the story picks up great where the last one let off and am always wondering what to expect next

Definitely agree, although Halo 4 did struggle with some of the smaller plot points it was still a fantastic character focused story, and the only one in which Chief was a relatable and developed character. Not that making John an bland avatar made the other Halos bad, but I found it a lot easier to sympathize with him in Halo 4 more than the other games.

It’s honestly a shame to see people complaining about this game’s step forward in developing the Chief as a character rather than keeping him as the most bland and generic one possible.

When it comes to story I would say it’s pretty good.Replay ability is another story imo.It has a few missions like like, but halo 2 and 3 have more replay ability imo

If 6s doesnt have so many lore connections that the uninitiated literally cant get past the title screen without suffering some kind of lore-based seizer I will be incredibly disappointing.

In Halo 5 Guardians and Warden Eternal just appeared out of nowhere and Jul MDama, after all the fun we had chasing after him in Halo 4 Spartan Ops got killed by a cut-scene. We never even got to fight him.

In Halo 4 Chief is trying to get back to Halsey to help Cortana but in Halo 5 when he hears Jul is Dead and Halsey is back with Osiris (Mission Blue Team) Chief does not even bat an eyelid and instead is busy doing stuff on Argent Moon. This is just not how it would have happened.

The Story in 4 had me really excited but 5 was a huge disappointment as the was the whole Halo 5 Guardians package, game, DLC, Story, lack of MM maps at release and the use of stupid Lego buildings.

We also only got audio datapads in Halo 5 when 4 and the MCC were littered with actual video terminals.

6 really needs to have a great story and a great package. At least we can pay for a month of Xbox Games Pass to see if it’s worth buying (which of course I will do anyway)
