Lore explanation for armor/aesthetic redesign

This may sound super obvious but a really easy lore explanation for the armor redesign could be that they are returning to older armor because the created have essentially wiped out all tech, so the newer armor with all the abilities and whatnot isn’t working anymore, therefore the UNSC has to result in turning to older armor mixed with elements of the new ones. Maybe this armor is actually just a literal combination of the previous armor.

or since Cortana essentially upgraded chief’s armor chief and unsc reckoned that if he kept using the armor she could hack into it and take it over

Or it simply could be 343i re conning Halo because of the backlash.
I could care less which design they used, I just want the game to be fun like the good ole days.

If the armor in the announcement trailer is indeed a old Mark VI suit then damn have they maintained that thing really well. It barely has any scratches, dents or any other blemishes on it. So it is either “new” old Mjolnir armor that has never seen combat or a completely new armor type (Mark VIII?) that just so happens to look very similar to the old design (it’s not that the core Mjolnir designs have changed that much (visually) since the Mark IV).

…or it’s just others have already mentioned and 343 have simply decided to go back to the old aesthetic without any lore specific justifications.

I think the explanation they will use is Halsey is working on Sanghelios now (see end of halo 5) with the arbiter. She will make a version of mark VI or VII with Master chiefs old design and you will start the mission with this new armor (possibly a new Cortana as well). You will then go through the same configurations as halo 1 and 2 (look up, left and right plus the shield thing).

As for the redesign of vehicles and elites etc I don’t think an explanation is needed.

Who cares about a lore reason? As long as we get the classic armor I’m satisfied.

A lot of us like to have explanations about things, because sudden changes in design are annoying and make no sense.

My thoughts exactly, but then I began to wonder why spartan IV armor can be hacked while spartan II and III armor can’t. I assume their radio systems are the same, and they aren’t connected to anything else, so why would new armor be more prone to hacks?

Maybe new armor has a built-in tracking system that isn’t compatible with older armor, so wearing older armor would help when performing operations under the radar.

IFF tags are in every armor variant so the older armor would not be any better in the stealth regard.also every suit that has an outside connection (radio and such) can be easily hacked.

I thought so. Well, there goes that idea…

I personally don’t think this game takes place after halo 5. Basically like Reach came after the game Halo 3 but the store was before CE.

It’s confirmed to be set after Halo 5 G.

Given the beginning the recently released book, Halo: Bad Blood, it made the end of Halo 5 G seem needlessly cliffhanger’ish. Regardless, Halsey, Blue Team, Osiris and Palmer are aboard the Infinity.

I suspect that the armour change is just creative license. Personally, I kind of like the newer armour designs more, but I enjoy them all the same either way.

They shouldn’t even bother, it would be better just to not acknowledge it at all.

Just treat it as creative license and stop adding increasingly contrived nonsense to justify changes. This has been something that has taken me a while to come around on, but I think its better in the long run to allow more creative flexibility. Things are only going to get messier as Halo gets older.

That being said, the problem with 343 artstyle in H4/H5 is not that they are just new or even bad, its just that I personally just don’t think they fit the established “formula” for a mainline Halo game.

Where did 343 confirm this?

probably the case cause back then A.i may not of been as efficient as they are now

Yeah that’s sort of what I was figuring…

Oh okay I didn’t read bad blood yet. I didn’t know it was released yet.
